[Update – November 21: Xiaomi has started rolling out stable MIUI 9 update for the Redmi 4 after rolling out Nightly build last week.]

Earlier: Xiaomi launched Redmi 4 running MIUI 8 based on Marshmallow back in May, the company rolled out Nougat based Stable ROM to the users a fortnight ago just before the MIUI 9 Global launch. As per the announcement, Redmi 4 was kept in the second batch of devices along with Mi 5, Mi Max and others which were supposed to receive the update in mid-Nov. Yesterday evening, some users started reporting that they are receiving a new OTA update as Nightly build on their Redmi 4 devices. MIUI 9 will be the last update for these phones

At the MIUI 9 Global launch, Xiaomi highlighted the fact that even 5-year-old phones including Mi 2/2S are still getting weekly MIUI updates and will also get MIUI 9 Global Stable update. Now, within a couple of weeks, Xiaomi made an announcement on MIUI Forum saying that MIUI updates will be suspended for few of Xiaomi devices after the MIUI 9 update. In late 2017, when most of the OEMs are releasing schedule for the Oreo update, a  lot of budget phones that are launched still run on Android Marshmallow. Xiaomi Redmi 4A was launched back in March 2017 with MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0.1 (Marshmallow), but Xiaomi didn’t announce anything regarding the Android update for the device till date. Also, Redmi 4A was amongst the few devices which didn’t receive MIUI 9 Global Beta update until this Friday. One of the methods commonly used by the users for manually updating is flashing via updater app, Updater app method should be used only for updating MIUI Stable/Beta ROM.   This method should not be used for downgrading MIUI Stable/Beta ROM or switching between MIUI Beta ROM and MIUI Stable ROM otherwise system apps might crashes frequently, users should prefer flashing using Fastboot Method if downgrading MIUI Stable/Beta ROM or switching between MIUI Beta ROM and MIUI Stable ROM. Xiaomi India today announced that it has shipped over 9.2 million smartphones in the country in the third quarter of 2017 for the first time. It shipped 100,000 smartphones per quarter in 2014, crossed the 1 million mark in Q3 2015, 3 million in Q3  2017, and now is has cross 9 million units for the first time in Q3 2017, said Manu Jain, Group Vice President and Managing Director of Xiaomi India .
