Toshiba agrees to sell image sensor business to Sony

Toshiba Corporation today confirmed earlier reports that it will sell CMOS image sensor business to Sony Corporation. It will help it to overhaul its unprofitable semiconductor businesses after the company shared that it overstated earnings by $1.3 billion going back to fiscal 2008-2009. Even though the company did not confirm how much the deal is worth, it is worth around 20 billion yen ($166.15 million) according to Reuters. Sony has launched its flagship Xperia Z5 Premium Dual smartphone in India, as it promised. It was announced at the IFA last month in Berlin last month and packs a 5.5-inch (3840×2160 pixels) Triluminos Display at 806 PPI, is powered by an Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor and runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop). It has a 23-megapixel rear camera with 1/2.3″ Sony Exmor RS image sensor, f/2.0 aperture, Sony G lens, Hybrid AF speed of 0.03s, 4K video recording and a 5-megapixel 1080p front-facing camera with EXMOR R sensor. Sony Xperia Z3+, Z4 Tablet and few others will get Android 6.0 directly skipping Android 5.1.1

Sony recently confirmed the list of devices that will get Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) update. It already rolled out Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) for most of its devices after it rolled out the Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update. Still some devices are yet to receive the Android 5.1.1 update, now the Sony Mobile Support page (Via) has confirmed that these devices will get Android 6.0 Marshmallow update directly skipping Android 5.1.1. Sony has sent out press invites for the launch of the company’s latest Xperia Z5 and Xperia Z5 Premium flagship smartphones in India on October 21st. Both these were announced at the IFA last month in Berlin. Google started rolling out Android 6.0 update for Nexus devices starting from yesterday. HTC and Motorola already promised to offer Android Marshmallow update for some of its devices. Sony Mobile just confirmed Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) update for a range of smartphones. It doesn’t mention the Xperia Z and Z1 range, but the company says that it has been working hard to bring the major update to as many of the devices as possible, so we can expect more devices to be added in the future. Sony rolls out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua

Sony has started rolling out Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for Xperia M2 and Xperia M2 Aqua.  The Xperia M2 Aqua had received Android 4.4 KitKat update in August last year and this will be the first time both the devices will get Lollipop.

Sony Xperia C5 Ultra Dual Review

Selfies are all the rage right now and Sony seems to understand that better than most other companies. The Sony Xperia C5 Ultra is the successor to the Xperia C4 that came out earlier this year. Like the Xperia C4, the Xperia C5 Ultra is also a selfie-centric smartphone. While the Xperia C4 did have a pretty capable camera up front, the Xperia C5 Ultra makes it look like the Xperia C4 was a half-baked attempt at making a selfie smartphone due to its much higher end camera specifications.
