Qualcomm introduced Quick Charge 4 last year along with the Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform. Now it has announced Quick Charge 4+ that includes all the benefits of Quick Charge 4 along with three new enhancements such as improved Dual Charge, Intelligent Thermal Balancing and Advanced Safety Features. With these features it can charge up to 15 percent faster, or 30 percent more efficiently when compared to Quick Charge 4, says Qualcomm.

ASUS, HP and Lenovo to build Windows 10 PCs with LTE powered by Snapdragon 835

At the WinHEC event in Shenzhen, China last December, Microsoft and Qualcomm announced that Windows 10 will be coming to next-generation of Snapdragon mobile processors. As the launch OnePlus’ next flagship is near, both these companies today confirmed that the smartphone will be powered by Snapdragon 835 Mobile Platform. With the OnePlus 5, the company not only aims to offer smooth performance, it is also keen to fix touch latency issues that had been one of the main complaints with the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones.

Qualcomm has demoed dynamic electric vehicle charging (DEVC), which allows vehicles to charge while driving. This is based on the Qualcomm Halo wireless electric vehicle charging technology (WEVC). Qualcomm said that it has designed and built a wireless DEVC system capable of charging an electric vehicle (EV) dynamically at up to 20 kilowatts at highway speeds and in excess of, 100 km/h. Google at the Google I/O 2017 announced its standalone Daydream VR headset, as expected. HTC’s VIVE and Lenovo will be building these headsets that are coming later this year. Google will also create a standalone headset reference design powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 VR platform. Since it is an untethered headset that doesn’t require a smartphone like the first generation Daydream headset, and this comes with positional head-tracking.

Intel and Samsung file amicus brief to support FTC lawsuit against Qualcomm

Earlier in January this year US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm for anti-competitive practices. Now, Intel and Samsung have filed amicus briefs with the court supporting the FTC’s lawsuit and opposing Qualcomm’s request to dismiss the case. Both the companies claim that Qualcomm uses its dominant position in the mobile processor industry to keep other players out. Qualcomm just announced Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630 high-end Mobile Platforms, successors of last year’s Snapdragon 653 and Snapdragon 626. The Snapdragon 660 is the first processor in the lineup to come with Kryo CPU that promises 20% better performance compared to Snapdragon 653. It also has new Adreno 512 GPU that offers 30% better performance compared to Adreno 510 and the new Adreno 508 GPU on the Snapdragon 630 offers 30% better performance compared to 506. The Snapdragon 630 uses the same Cortex A53 CPUs, but its arranged in performance and efficiency cluster arrangement. Apple stops paying iPhone royalties to Qualcomm

Apple is withholding payments to contract manufacturers that are owed to Qualcomm until the legal dispute between the two companies is resolved. As a result, Qualcomm has slashed its current-quarter profit and revenue forecasts. The company has lowered its revenue guidance to a range of $4.8 billion to $5.6 billion for the fiscal third quarter from $5.3 billion to $6.1 billion.

Qualcomm Signs 3G/4G Patent License Agreement with Smartron, has over 330 licensees globally

Qualcomm today announced that it has entered into a 3G and 4G patent license agreement with Indian OEM Smartron. Under the deal, Qualcomm has granted Smartron a royalty-bearing patent license to develop, manufacture and sell WCDMA, CDMA2000, and 4G LTE complete devices. Last year Qualcomm singed 3G and 4G patent license agreement with several Chinese companies such as Lenovo, OPPO, Gionee, Vivo and more. It includes the Qualcomm 205 SoC, which encompasses the baseband functionalities, plus hardware components including RF front end, discrete Wi-Fi, power management, audio codec, speaker amplifier, and software for a comprehensive mobile solution. Qualcomm also showed off a VoLTE feature phone with a keyboard developed by FIH/Megafone, similar to the Lava 4G Connect M1. “processor,”, said the company regarding the re-branding.
