Qualcomm files new lawsuit against Apple over iPhone X, seeks partial ban in the US

Right after Apple filed a countersuit against Qualcomm on Wednesday, the San Diego based chipset maker has fired back by filing three new patent infringement lawsuits against Apple saying there were 16 more of its patents that Apple was using in its iPhones.

Qualcomm is seeking a partial BAN on latest Apple flagships; the iPhone 8, and the iPhone X that use Intel competing Intel Corp (INTC.O) chips. Qualcomm has filed three cases at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California in San Diego. One of the three cases is a companion civil lawsuit to a new complaint also filed Thursday with the ITC which also seeks iPhone ban, while the remaining two being Civil patent infringement lawsuits.

The long-standing dispute between Qualcomm and Apple has three new complaints following the countersuit from Apple against Qualcomm, which alleged that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon mobile phone chips infringed on Apple patents. Qualcomm in its new lawsuit states that Apple is infringing 16 of its patents related to technologies that boost bandwidth in phones, save power and enhance photos from dual rear-facing cameras, among other things.

Some of these patents were issued between 2015 and 2017. While the timing of the Qualcomm lawsuit might fall in-line with the Apple’s countersuit, General Counsel Don Rosenberg says that the timing of Qualcomm’s lawsuits is coincidental to Apple’s countersuit.
