oppo-n1-review-13

Oppo had earlier revealed that they are entering the Indian market today, and right now, they have done just that, at an event in New Delhi. This event also sees the launch of company flagship, the Oppo N1, for a price of Rs. 39,999, for the 16 GB version. The N1, initially rumoured to be a camera centric device, turned out to be a lot more, which we had documented in our review earlier. It has a 5.9 inch 1080p display, a 13 megapixel camera sitting on a rotating swivel, a rear touch sensor for one handed usage, a really cool bluetooth accessory and so on. The hardware alone does not tell the entire story because the N1 is perhaps the most open device on the market, with an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery that can install ROMs like Cyanogen Mod without any modification. Now that it has landed in India, can the “13 MP selfie” phone make its mark in a highly competitive market?

While the invite doesn’t mention the launch of N1, FoneArena has confirmed that the company is indeed launching the device at the event. It is also really interesting to note that Oppo has courted Bollywood stars Hrithik Roshan and Sonam Kapoor for increasing brand awareness in the country. Almost all the mobile phone companies have courted stars from Bollywood and Cricket to promote their brands and Oppo is no exception.

cyanogen-mod-oppo-n1-google-cts-approved

Oppo N1 is the first Cyanogen Mod phone to have been approved by Google’s strict CTS, for compliance to Android compatibility and of course, inclusion of Google Play on this limited edition device. The Oppo N1 Cyanogen Mod Edition was announced as “coming in December” but never really got solid dates owing to the obvious roadblocks, but thanks to this recent development, Oppo has revealed that the device is shipping on Christmas Eve i.e December 24th of this year. This marks the first time in history that a popular third party AOSP ROM based phone is Google certified and is shown the green light. Cyanogen Mod’s Koushik Dutta happened to be relieved about the announcement, as his G+ post read

Google just approved our first CyanogenMod  phone

Man, the last 24 hours has been a total rollercoaster of emotions, and it isn’t letting up it seems.

Oppo Find 7 to be one of the first phones with a 2K display

oppo-find-7-2k-display

Oppo, the company behind awesome products like the Find 5 and N1, has just teased an upcoming feature of its yet-to-be-released Oppo Find 7. The company just confirmed that the Find 7 will sport a 2K display, which makes it one of the world’s first devices with a display of such resolution. Oppo seems to be taking the next logical step in displays on smartphones and their ever increasing pixel density. The Oppo Find 5 was one of the first devices to pack a 1080p display and it looks like the Find 7 will be one of the first with a 2K display, which is unique positioning for their new flagship, we think. It has been more than a year since the Find 5 was officially announced. It was showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show & MWC last year and only then were we able to marvel at the 1080p display of the Find 5. We hope that’s the same case for the Oppo Find 7.

Oppo N1 Review

oppo-n1-review-33Oppo N1 Review

After a long period of leaks and teasers, Oppo finally announced its latest flagship device, the Oppo N1 in September. The N1, initially believed to be camera-centric, ended up as a well rounded flagship device for the company. Innovations like the O-Touch rear sensor and the unique rotating swivel unit for the camera made sure that the N1 is not just another Android phone, and has a number of firsts worth looking at. Yes, it is a potential trend setter, but is also a trend follower. With a huge 5.9 inch screen, the N1 brings Oppo to proper phablet territory, addressing the growing trend of massively sized phones that bridge the gap between phones and the most popular form factor in tablets. Makes Oppo one of the first companies to go with this approach for a flagship device. The N1 is a phablet, which is currently considered a niche, but one that represents everything Oppo stands for. But the big question is, at a starting price of 599$, does it have the potential to rival the best Android hardware in the market? Lets find out in our in-depth review.

The sheer volume of Chinese manufactures has seldom helped us in remembering them, but among them a few companies do stand out and one among them is Oppo. Having produced only a handful of smartphones so far, Oppo have “made it large” because of their hardware and design language in their phones. Oppo have just launched their Oppo N1 and today we have images of what is probably the company’s next smartphone – Oppo R829. Via their Weibo account, Oppo have posted the image of this new device and according to Oppo’s Brand Ambassador – Kedros Ng, this device is the Oppo R829. The naming convention makes us inclined to think that this is the successor of Oppo R819 which we reviewed earlier.

oppo-r833t-mid-range-smartphone

While flagships like the N1 keep coming, Oppo has sought to gain marketshare and mind share with its mid range devices too. It started with the Oppo R819, and now a new Oppo R833T mid range smartphone has been revealed in China. It’s a 4.3″ device with modest specifications, which is similar to the ones we have here in the Indian mid range market. The device runs on a 1.3 GHz Quad Core Cortex A7 processor and has 1 GB of RAM, with 4 GB of internal storage augmented with a micro SD expansion slot if needed. There is also a 5 MP camera on the back with a single LED flash and this phone unsurprisingly runs on the company’s own Color OS, with Android 4.2.2 underneath. The phone is undoubtedly aimed at the low-mid end range of smartphones which is the fastest growing segment in a market like China or India.
