TRAI mandates operators to credit Re. 1 to consumers per dropped call from Jan 2016

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued Telecom Consumers Protection (Ninth Amendment) Regulations, 2015 that will come into force from the 1st January, 2016. Under this new amendment, TRAI has mandated originating mobile providers to credit one Rupee for a dropped call to the calling consumers as notional compensation. Deadline for Pan-India Mobile Number Portability (MNP) extended by DoT till July

Deadline to implement the full mobile number portability (MNP) across the India has now been extended by another two months. Cellular Operators Association on India (COAI) have asked for extension seeking some technical issues in implementation. TRAI reduces roaming charges for calls and SMS

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today announced that it has reduced ceiling tariffs for national roaming calls and SMS. It also announced that special roaming tariff plan are mandatory for all the operators. TRAI reportedly looking to put fee on WhatsApp, Viber and other OTT players

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is working on discussion paper on OTT service providers that could implement charges for over-the-top (OTT) players of apps like WhatsApp, Viber, Skype etc, according to a report from Business Today. It wants them to pay connectivity charges to telecom companies and share revenue with the government as well. TRAI issues new regulations for SMS termination charges to curb spam SMS


The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has imposed new SMS termination charges for retail consumers and commercial messages. Termination charge is paid by the operator where the SMS originates to the operator to which the message is delivered. TRAI did not set a particular charge for this hence some operators were charging 10 paise as termination charges. Now they have set the SMS termination charge as 2 paise for normal SMS and 5 paise on transactional SMS on operators from whom the SMS originates. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued direction to service providers regarding provision of ISD facility to prepaid subscribers to curb international missed calls, calls from international numbers on winning of prizes or lottery and inform customers through SMS at periodic intervals not to respond to missed calls from unknown international numbers. TRAI exempts 200 SMS per day limit for SMS sent to, generated by machines


The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has exempted the daily SMS limit of 200 for machine to machine and person to machine messages. TRAI restricted mobile users from sending more than 100 SMS / day per SIM starting 27th September 2011, to prevent pesky marketing SMS. TRAI asks operators to publish tariff plans regularly


The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has announced that all Telecom service providers should publish their Tariff Plan details regularly to let the customers know about the changes. They should also publish the tariff details in at least one Newspaper of regional language and one English newspaper at an interval not more than 6 months. TRAI increases daily SMS limit from 100 to 200


The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) restricted the mobile users from sending more than 100 SMS / day per SIM starting 27th September 2011, to prevent pesky marketing SMS. Now TRAI has increased the limit from 100 to 200 SMS / day per SIM after they received representations from some of the service providers and consumers to increase the limit of 100 SMS per day per SIM. TRAI 100 SMS per day limit comes into effect

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has imposed the restriction of 100 SMS/ day per SIM from today (27.09.2011) to prevent pesky marketing SMS. Now they have excluded the service providers, DTH operators, e-ticketing agencies, social networking sites and directory service agencies from the limit. Mobile Subscriber base crosses 700mn in India

TRAI the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India has released the subscriber figures at the end of October 2010. One of the interesting facts is that the Wireless Subscriber base has reached 706.69 Million. Bharti Airtel added the most subscribers in the period followed by Vodafone and Uninor.

ET is reporting that the Operators in India have been fined over 42 crores so far for flouting Subscriber Verification norms when issuing new SIM Cards. This is basically to discourage operators from issuing new connections based on Fake Identity.

11 Digits Phone Numbers to be soon a reality?

With an exponential increase in the Mobile subscribers rate, we might be soon having 11 digits Phone Numbers. Government of India is reportedly now considering to change the numbering scheme from the current 10 digits to 11 digits with an addition of digit “9” to the numbers in order to accomodate more users.

TRAI, the telecom regulator of India, has recorded an increase of 16.67 million during october 2009 itself taking the total number of subscribers to 488 million subscribers. Hence DoT (Department of Telecommunication) has supposedly issued a note to all the telecom operators to start making necessary arrangements for the migration from Jan 1, 2010.
