TRAI seeks views to regulate OTT apps like WhatsApp, Skype and more

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has determined to sort views on whether to regular communication apps such as WhatsApp, Skype, and Viber. This comes to light mainly because of economic and security matters. In a paper released Monday, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India asked views of the industry to identify which of these apps should be regarded as providing the same services like mobile phone operators. Airtel today announced that it is planning a massive network deployment plans for Mumbai as part of its network transformation initiative – Project Leap. During the FY 18-19, Airtel plans to roll out 7000 new mobile sites including the large-scale deployment of pre-5G Massive MIMO technology across Mumbai to significantly boost network capacity for high-speed data and voice services. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is back again with new proposals that state the use of Blockchain technology to curb spam calls and messages. This move is to ensure that telemarketing messages are sent only to those who have subscribed to them, and that too by authorized entities. The proposed Telecom Commercial Communication Customer Preference Regulation 2018 will empower billions of subscribers to take control of their voice and text communications. Telecom Commission approves internet telephony, use of mobile services in flights and ships in India

Telecom Commission on Tuesday has approved the proposal to allow internet telephony in the country as well as in-flight mobile services. With this new approval, users can now make calls to mobile phones as well as landlines using the Wi-Fi broadband. The proposals were approved by the commission chaired by telecom secretary Aruna Sundararajan. Airtel launches new WhatsApp data packs

WhatsApp is the current leader in the instant messaging app market with over 500 million monthly active users globally. In April WhatsApp CEO Jan Koum also touted that the service has over 48 million monthly active users in India.The cross platform app which was acquired by Facebook in February this year, has joined hands with Airtel to provide special data packs.

Tulip Telecom Builds World’s 3rd Largest Datacenter

Indian telecommunications service provider , Tulip Telecom , launched Asia’s largest data center on Monday. The datacenter which is the 3rd largest in the world is spread over an area of 9,00,000 sq ft.

The data center has been build to gold international green building standards and meets Tier 3 and Tier 4 specifications. The internet connectivity is via fibre and relies on multiple ISPs. The datacenter requires 100 megawatts of power at peak output during full operations.

The datacenter will play host to a variety of cloud and networking services. Approximately 30% of the server rack space has already been allocated with HP being a major customer . 100% allocation is being aimed for within 3 years. IBM will be a strategic partner with Tulip offering its data center and SmartCloud infrastructure services which will support Tulip in dramatically extending its existing offerings to quickly meet customer demand.
