Apple unveiled Siri-powered smart speaker HomePod at WWDC 2017, as expected. The 7-inch tall is Apple’s answer to Amazon Echo and Google Home as it offers similar functions like playing music, checking the news and controlling other connected devices in the home. Apple is reportedly developing a dedicated AI chip for iPhone and iPad

Apple is developing a dedicated artificial intelligence chip that will power AI related actions on mobile devices, according to a report from Bloomberg. An anonymous source told the publication that the chip which could be dubbed as Apple Neural Engine, will assist in functions such as computer vision, speech recognition, facial recognition, and other forms of artificial intelligence.

Google Assistant is now available on the iPhone

The rumors of Google Assistant coming to the iOS is indeed true. Google, today at its I/O developer conference in Mountain View announced that the Assistant will be available on the iPhone. Google’s Assistant takes on Apple’s Siri directly and it will be interesting to see who wins this battle.

Apple starts assembling iPhone SE in India, shipping starts later this month: WSJ

Apple reportedly acquires AI firm Lattice Data for $200 million

Apple has been focused on AI for sometime and it looks like it is bolstering its efforts further. According to a new report from TechCrunch, Apple has acquired  Lattice Data, a company that specializes in artificial intelligence. The deal which was closed a couple of weeks ago is slated at $200 million. The report also said that about 20 engineers have joined the larger company.

Worldwide tablet shipments decline 8.5% in Q1 2017: IDC

The worldwide tablet market once again contracted in the first quarter of 2017 (1Q17) with total shipments of 36.2 million, a year-over-year decline of 8.5%, according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker. The first quarter contraction marks the tenth straight quarter that tablets have experienced a decline over the same quarter a year earlier, with the previous five quarters recording double-digit drops.
