BlackBerry smartphone powered by 64-bit Octa-Core chip rumored to arrive in September

BlackBerry would launch a smartphone powered by a 64-bit Octa-Core chip, according to a recent report from the pocket-lint. Samsung launched the Galaxy S4 which was the Exynos 5410, its first Octa-Core chip with fours Cortex A15 chips and four Cortex A7 chips. Later it released an upgraded Exynos 5420 on the Note 3. Recent rumors from N4BB revealed that the BlackBerry phone would run on the upcoming Snapdragon 810 (MSM8994) chip. Airtel launches 4G on mobile, available for Apple iPhone 5s and 5c users in Bengaluru at 3G rates

Bharti Airtel has launched 4G on mobile starting from Bengaluru. Airtel announced their plans to roll out 4G LTE service on smartphones for customers in the city back in December. It also rolled out carrier settings update on the iPhone 5s and 5c that enables the 2300 MHz LTE (Band 40) on the smartphones. Few weeks back it conducted a soft launch, today it launched the service officially. Japanese Internet giant Rakuten acquires Viber for $900 million

Rakuten, one of the world’s largest Internet services companies based in Japan has acquired Cyprus-based Viber Media, one of the popular cross-platform VoIP app maker for $900 million. Rakuten said it would enter global messaging market with this acquisition, and it already has vast global portfolio of services such as e-readers, financial services, baseball team and more. It acquired Toronto-based eReader business Kobo and several e-commerce providers. It owns 40 different services and seeks to become the world’s No. 1 Internet services company. Sony Xperia T, TX, V and SP Android 4.3 update starts rolling out

Sony Mobile started rolling out the Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) update for the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra back in December, the  Sony Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and the Xperia Tablet Z got the update at the end of December. It rolled out the Android 4.3 for the SP in several countries including India earlier this week, now the company announced that it is also rolling out the Android 4.3 update for the Xperia T, Xperia TX and the Xperia V. Intex Aqua Octa is the Indian company’s foray into the huge screen 6″ phablet market, and is also one of the first devices to sport the Octa core processor from MediaTek. We had unboxed it earlier, to show you the box contents and a quick overview of the device, but this time around, we will show a walkthrough of the phone in clear photos. This 6 inch device from Intex is pretty unique. It looks like a really slim unibody phone but actually has a removable back cover and a replaceable battery, while managing to be light at the same time. It also has a sleek design over at the front, with a dark IPS screen and a metal rim, so how does it look from all the sides? Lets find out.

Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone win spectrum as auction raises Rs. 61,162 crore for Govt

The Department of Telecom (DoT) has announced the winners in the spectrum auctions in various circles that ended after 68 rounds. At the end of the 2G auction government got bids worth Rs. 61,162 crore, much higher than their target revenue of Rs. 41,000 crore. It had put 385 MHz of radio waves in the 1800 MHz band in 22 circles and 46 MHz in the 900 MHz band in 3 circles. Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL) won 1800 MHz spectrum in 14 circles across India, out of 22 circles. The HP Slate 7 VoiceTab is the other device that HP launched today alongside the Slate 6 VoiceTab. Practically the same under the hood, the Slate 7 goes for a lower price point and a larger screen size. The tablet also enables voice calls and 3G functionality which isn’t something unheard of but is nice to have nonetheless. As global PC shipments drop, HP is making a push to re-enter the highly lucrative smartphone market. With the launch of the HP Slate 6 VoiceTab and the Slate 7 VoiceTab, the company have their sights set on the midrange phablets which is a segment that is currently dominated by local upstarts. Competition from global brands is heating up in the midrange 6inch phablet segment as Nokia too introduced its Lumia 1320 recently. We got to spend some time with HP’s new Slate 6 VoiceTab and here are our impressions.

Basemark X updated to v1.1 for Android, iPhone and iPad, released for Windows Phone 8

Rightware launched the Basemark OS II cross-platform benchmarking tool for Android, iPhone, iPad and Windows Phone 8 last month. Today it updated the Basemark X cross-platform benchmarking tool to version 1.1 and has also released it on Windows Phone 8. Basemark X that was released last year was based on Unity 4.0 gaming engine, the version 1.1 Unity gaming engine version 4.2.2. This also adds new features and a new test called Hangar. As usual you get configurable settings and score breakdown in results screen in the full version.
