Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update now available in India

Samsung started rolling out the Android 4.4 (KitKat) update for the Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500) users in Russia last week, Indian users started receiving the update earlier this week. Alcatel OneTouch has unveiled three new LTE smartphones in the Pop series, the Pop S3, Pop S7 and the Pop S9. It has also unveiled the Pixi 7, a 7-inch WiFi-only tablet. The Pop S3 has a 4-inch WVGA screen, S7 has a 5-inch qHD IPS screen and the Pop S9 comes with a 5.9-inch HD IPS screen. All these are powered by quad-core processors. Hands on with Sony’s Android 4.4 UI on a Xperia Z2 – Double Tap to Wake, Gestures and more

Sony launched the Xperia Z2 at the Mobile World Congress event here in Barcelona, Spain. The Z2 is an evolutionary upgrade over the Z1 and fixes every complaint people had with the Z1, like it has a better display, a way better build with a stunningly thin and premium design and overall a better package for a flagship. This also includes the new software work that Sony has done, because the Z2 is the first Android 4.4 device from the company and it brings a lot of new improvements to the looks as well as features that previously didn’t exist. While there are a lot of under the hood improvements, we took a look at some of the user facing features of the new skin on the Xperia Z2 –

Moto G gets a minor firmware update in Europe, brings back OTG, fixes mobile network issues

Motorola has started rolling out a minor Android KitKat update for the single SIM variant of the Moto G in Europe. This update brings back the USB on-the-go (OTG) support for the users with USB drivers and also fixes mobile network loss for some users. Some Moto G users in India have reported SIM related issues in the dual SIM version recently, after the KitKat update. This update might fix those issues. Samsung unveils Exynos 5 Octa 5422 and Exynos 5 Hexa 5260 chips

Samsung has unveiled its new Exynos 5 Octa chip, 5422 and its first Hexa-Core chip, Exynos 5 Hexa 5260 at the Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona. These chips are based on ARM big.LITTLE technology, similar to the Exynos 5410 and 5420 chips unveiled the last year, these also include Heterogeneous Multi-Processing that can run combination of up to eight or six cores, respectively, to provide optimum performance. LG L65 Hands on

LG had announced its third iteration of the budget friendly L series just prior to the MWC 2014. At the MWC 2014, LG had showcased these products and among the recently announced devices was the LG L65. LG L65 is a typical midrange offering keeping in mind the budget buyers. It comes with a layer of LG UI features over midrange specifications.

GSMA Global Mobile Awards 2014 Winners announced, HTC, Nokia win awards

The GSM Association has announced the winners for the 19th annual Global Mobile Awards at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Last year the Galaxy S3 bagged the award, this year HTC One was awarded the best smartphone of the year, even though it had tough contenders such as Samsung Galaxy Note 3, iPhone 5S, Nokia Lumia 1020 and the LG G2. Nokia bagged two awards, the Lumia 520 bagged the award for the best low-cost smartphone of the year, competing with phones like Sony Xperia E and Samsung Galaxy Young. Nokia 105 won for the best entry-level or feature phone of the year.
