MWC: A week with Vodafone Eurotraveller

Just over a week ago we were in Barcelona for Mobile World Congress 2015 and, as I have done for many years now, I used my Vodafone SIM card with EuroTraveller to provide me data whilst on the ground. It’s been a year since we were last in MWC and in that time, Vodafone have introduced 4G Roaming in Spain alongside double speed 4G across their European network.

Traditionally Barcelona has really poor mobile data speeds (whether using a local SIM or roaming) during the MWC week as 90,000+ people descend upon the city for the annual conference. Ahead of the trip, I expected the traditional data coverage and speeds issues with previous years suggesting large ping times, really slow speeds and overall, a lack of reliable data. Google has updated its Messenger app for Android to version 1.2 that brings support for animated GIF. With this feature you can now send and receive animated GIFs through messages. Cyanogen Inc. is close to raise $110 million in new round of funding, according to a report from Bloomberg. Earlier this year WSJ said that Microsoft is looking invest $70 million in Cyanogen Inc. Microsoft to release Cortana for Android and iOS: Report

Microsoft’s Cortana will be released for Android and iOS platforms as a standalone app, according to a report from Reuters. Cortana was released first on Windows Phone last year with the Windows Phone 8.1 update. Several apps had received support for Cortana since the release. Samsung Galaxy Note Edge Android 5.0 Lollipop update starts rolling out in India

Samsung has started rolling out Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update for the Galaxy Note Edge (SM-N915G) smartphone in India, according to Sammobile. The Galaxy Note Edge smartphone was launched in India running on Android 4.4 (KitKat) back in December last year. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 got the Android 5.0 Lollipop update in India last week.
