Huawei just unveiled Mate 9, its latest flagship smartphone at an event in Germany, as it had promised. It packs a 5.9-inch 1080p display with 2.5D glass, is powered by an Octa-Core HiSilicon Kirin 960 SoC with IntelliSense i6 sensor hub and runs on Android 7.0 (Nougat) with Emotion UI 5.0 on top and Google DaydreamVR support. It has a second generation Leica dual-lens camera with 12-megapixel RGB sensor, 20-megapixel monochrome sensor and Hybrid Zoom, featuring 2x magnification, dual-tone LED flash, laser auto focus, optical image stabilization (OIS) and uses Huawei’s own ISP. Nextbit Robin gets a price cut, now available on Amazon in the US for $169

Qualcomm revenue up 13% YoY, net income up 51% YoY in Q4 FY16, 211 million chips shipped

Qualcomm has reported revenue for fourth financial quarter and year that ended September 25, 2016. It has reported revenue of $6.2 billion, which is up 13% compared to the same quarter last year and non-GAAP earnings per share of $1.28 for the quarter, beating the average analyst estimate of $1.22. Total revenue for the fiscal year is 23.6 billion, which is up 7% compared to last year. Operating income was 1.8 billion, up 58% YoY and net income was $1.6 billion, up to 51% YoY. Xiaomi Redmi 4 with metal body to be announced on November 4

Sony mobile sales down 39.6% YoY in Q2 FY16, now expects to ship 17 million smartphones in FY16

Sony Corporation today reported its revenues for the second quarter of the financial year 2016 that ended September 30, 2016. Sales decreased by 10.8% to 1,688.9 billion yen (US$ 16,722 million) compared to the same quarter last year. Operating income decreased to 45.7 billion yen (US$ 453 million) year-on-year from 88 billion yen mainly due to the deterioration of operating results in the Semiconductors and Components segments. HyperDrive USB Type-C Hub for 2016 MacBook Pro has HDMI, 2 USB 3.0 and USB Type-C ports

Apple introduced new MacBook Pro models at an event last week. The 13-inch and 15-inch models with Touch Bar has four Thunderbolt 3 (USB Type-C) ports and the entry-level 13-inch model without Touch Bar has two of these ports. Since these don’t have a HDMI or USB Type-A ports, you need a separate hub even for charging Apple devices.
