HUAWEI confirms sale of HONOR smartphone brand

HUAWEI has confirmed the sale of their HONOR smartphone brand to Shenzhen Zhixin New Information Technology Co., Ltd. jointly founded by Shenzen Smart City Technology Development Group Co. Ltd. and over 30 agents and dealers of the HONOR Brand, selling all of HONOR’s business assets and its decision-making capabilities. The move is a result of a long battle between HUAWEI and the US government, whose sanctions have been hurting HUAWEI’s business for over a year now.

Google will soon give you a choice to turn off smart features and personalization in Gmail, Chat, and Meet

Google already does an excellent job with organizing your Gmail, categorizing them into Primary, Social, Promotion, etc. While the option to turn off this organization feature already exists, Google is adding a new personalization option to control how to process personal data that enables these smart features.

Samsung has announced the global launch of their Smart Monitors, which is a do-it-all monitor that combines a conventional PC display with a Samsung Smart TV experience. Apple iPads with Mini LED displays and 3rd gen AirPods reportedly coming in first half of 2021

Popular Apple analyst, Ming Chi-Kuo has revealed in a new research note to investors that Apple will likely launch a new iPad with a mini-LED display and new AirPods 3 sometime during the first half of 2021. Apple is expected to contract Chinese manufacturer Jialianyi for its LCP (liquid crystal polymer) soft boards technology, bringing the company as part of its supply chain for various Apple products.

Instagram update adds Shops and Reels tab to the Home screen

Instagram has announced a new update to their app that brings a change to the Home screen, adding two new tabs – Reels and Shop. These changes come after Instagram decided to focus of them more when they noticed a surge in content made in Reels and increased traffic in Instagram Shop over the period of the pandemic.

Apple has begun the global rollout of one of their biggest MacOS updates in recent times, called MacOS Big Sur, just like it announced two days ago. Facebook brings Vanish Mode for disappearing messages to Messenger and Instagram

Lately Facebook has been focusing on bring some version of sending temporary messages feature in their various instant messaging services. Just last week, they added a feature called Disappearing Messages to WhatsApp and now they have announced a Vanish Mode for the Facebook Messenger, which will also come to Instagram soon. This is already available in Snapchat.

Google Photos announces end of free unlimited photo backups starting June 2021

For the past 5 years, Google account users have enjoyed the ability to store their photos and videos in high quality for free in Google Photos. That will not be the case anymore soon as Google has announced a change to their policy – photo and video backup will no longer be free starting June 1, 2021, and instead it will be counted against the 15GB quota that comes free with every Google account.

Samsung launches The Sero 43-inch rotating TV in India for Rs. 1,24,990

Earlier this year during CES 2020, Samsung introduced a rather interesting take on the TV design, showcasing a very unique TV that could rotate to display both horizontally and vertically. The TV, called The Sero, is Samsung’s vision for a future where vertical content, primarily smartphone content can be viewed on TVs without the annoying black columns, and now they have launched The Sero in India.

Android Enterprise Recommended Program list now include Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets

The Android Enterprise Recommended program is a list of devices that Google approved for enterprise customers after meeting their standards for hardware, software and updates. The program listed consisted of devices from manufacturers like Lenovo, OnePlus, Oppo, and Xiaomi, and now the latest to join them is Samsung’s family of Galaxy smartphones and tablets.

Google Drive may soon support native file encryption and decryption

Google Drive is a great way to store and backup your files online, both on the desktop and mobile. However, it can be argued that the files are not the most secure, as someone who gains access to the account can access all the cloud stored files. That may change soon as an APK teardown has revealed that Google is working on support file encryption and decryption natively in Drive.
