Alphabet records 257.6 billion in revenue in 2021, up 41% YoY; Pixel shipments highest-ever in Q4 2021

Alphabet, the parent company of Google, had a successful last quarter in 2021, earning a revenue of $75 billion and growing 32% YoY. For the fiscal year 2021, the company recorded $257.6 billion in revenue which calculates to a growth of 41% YoY. 2021 was also a great year for the Google Pixel smartphones, as the phone saw its highest-ever quarterly shipments in Q4 2021.

Sony acquires Destiny game developer Bungie in $3.6 billion deal

Lately, the console wars between Sony’s PlayStation and Microsoft’s Xbox seem to be focused in another direction – acquisition of game studios. Last month, Microsoft purchased Activision Blizzard in an expensive $68.7 billion deal, and now Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced their acquisition of Bungie developer in a $3.6 billion deal.

India smartphone market shipped 169 million units in 2021, records 11% YoY growth: Report

According to a new report from Counterpoint Research, the Indian smartphone market recorded its highest ever shipments of 169 million units in 2021, growing an impressive 11% YoY. However, the market did witness a decline of 8% YoY during Q4 2021, and the top 5 manufacturers were Xiaomi, Samsung, vivo, realme, and OPPO.

Worldwide tablet market records 3.2% YoY growth in 2021, shipped 168.8 million units: IDC

The worldwide smartphone market shipped a total of 46 million units during the fourth quarter of 2021, declining 11.9% YoY. For the entire year, the market shipped 168.8 million units, which is the highest since 2016. Chromebooks on the other hand declined 63.6% YoY during Q4 2021, but managed to grow 13.5% for the entire 2021 year.

Global smartphone market shipped 1.35 billion units in 2021, records 5.7% growth

The global smartphone market witnessed an overall growth of 5.7% in 2021 when compared to 2020, after shipping a total of 1.35 billion units. However, the market did witness a a decline in shipments during Q4 of 2021, shipping a total of 362.4 million phones, which calculates to 3.2% YoY decline.

India PC market records 30% YoY in Q3 2021, shipped 4.5 million units: IDC

According to a new report from the International Data Corporation (IDC), the Indian traditional PC market, which includes desktops, notebooks, and workstations, shipped a total of 4.5 million units during Q3 2021. This calculates to a growth of 30% YoY, and the top 3 companies were HP, Dell and Lenovo.
