JSW MG Motor India has introduced MG ADAPT (Advance Drive Architecture Platform Technology), a modular vehicle architecture designed to support multiple new energy vehicle (NEV) powertrains.
Developed as a flexible framework, the platform is engineered to accommodate battery electric vehicles (BEVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and range extender electric vehicles (REEVs).
The launch represents an effort by the automaker to consolidate its various new energy mobility solutions under a single, integrated platform strategy for the Indian market.
Technical Architecture and Engineering
The MG ADAPT platform employs a modular design aimed at standardizing core structural elements while allowing for varying powertrain integrations. According to the company, this common-framework approach is intended to streamline product development cycles, improve design flexibility, and enhance manufacturing efficiency across different vehicle segments.
The core engineering focus centers on optimizing vehicle performance metrics, including driving range, fast-charging compatibility, and overall structural safety. By utilizing a scalable architecture, the company intends to provide diverse powertrain options tailored to varying customer use cases and driving demands.
Integrated Technology Ecosystem
For hybrid applications, the platform incorporates a dedicated technology ecosystem comprising four primary components managed by an centralized software layer:
- Dedicated Hybrid Engine: Developed specifically for hybrid configurations, this engine is optimized for high thermal efficiency and reduced fuel consumption compared to standard internal combustion engines.
- Dedicated Battery System: Engineered to provide rapid electrical response and high discharge efficiency while maintaining safety standards.
- 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit: A highly integrated, compact drive unit that combines ten individual components into a single housing, reducing physical complexity and weight.
- Electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission: A transmission system utilizing electromagnetic actuation to manage power delivery between the engine and electric motor.
An intelligent energy management system continuously monitors driving dynamics and component states to regulate the interaction between the engine, battery, and electric motor, aiming to optimize fuel economy and power delivery.
Operational Modes and Energy Management
The platform’s energy management software automatically switches between four distinct operating states depending on real-time driving conditions:
| Drive Mode | Operational Mechanism | Ideal Use Case |
| Pure Electric Drive | The vehicle operates solely on battery power via the electric motor. | Urban stop-and-go driving |
| Series Hybrid Drive | The internal combustion engine acts as a generator to charge the battery, while the electric motor drives the wheels. | Variable-speed city transit |
| Parallel Hybrid Drive | Both the engine and the electric motor simultaneously provide power to the wheels. | Acceleration and high-load performance |
| Engine Direct Drive | The internal combustion engine connects directly to the wheels via the transmission. | High-speed highway cruising |
Support for Range Extender Technology

In addition to standard hybrid and electric configurations, the modular architecture is capable of supporting Range Extender Electric Vehicle (REEV) layouts. Under this configuration, the vehicle maintains a constant electric-drive characteristic where the electric motor is the exclusive source of propulsion.
The onboard petrol engine does not connect to the driven wheels; instead, it functions strictly as a stationary generator to replenish the battery pack during extended journeys, addressing range anxiety associated with charging infrastructure limitations.
MG ADAPT will serve as the technical foundation for JSW MG Motor India’s upcoming portfolio of new energy vehicles as the company scales its sustainable mobility offerings.

Speaking at the unveiling, Anurag Mehrotra, Managing Director, JSW MG Motor India, said:
At JSW MG Motor India, we believe the future of mobility lies in giving customers the freedom to choose the energy solution that best suits their lifestyle, without compromising on performance, efficiency or driving experience. MG ADAPT marks a defining milestone in our New Energy Vehicle journey and reflects our commitment to bringing globally advanced technologies that are relevant to the evolving needs of Indian customers.
Designed as a highly flexible technology platform, MG ADAPT brings together multiple energy solutions on a single intelligent architecture, enabling us to deliver vehicles that are more efficient, more adaptable and engineered for the future. As we continue to expand our New Energy Vehicle portfolio, this platform will serve as the technological backbone of our future products and reinforce our commitment to accelerating sustainable mobility in India.
