
JioHotstar has announced a significant update to its subscription framework, set to take effect on January 28, 2026. The update introduces monthly billing options across all tiers and restructures access to international content, a move the company states is designed to increase flexibility for both mobile and large-screen viewers.
Monthly Plans
A central component of the new pricing structure is the introduction of monthly plans, which will now sit alongside the existing quarterly and annual options. This applies to all subscription tiers.
According to the announcement, the shift is a response to evolving consumption patterns, specifically the explosive growth of large-screen viewership witnessed in the 11 months since the platform’s launch after the merger.
The new monthly options aim to lower the entry barrier for individuals streaming on smartphones and families accessing the service via Connected TVs.
Restructuring Content Packages
The updated proposition also brings changes to how content libraries are segmented based on subscription tiers, specifically regarding international programming:
- Super and Premium Tiers: New subscribers on these plans will have inclusive access to Hollywood entertainment.
- Mobile Tier: Hollywood content will no longer be bundled by default. Instead, mobile users can access this content through a flexible “add-on,” allowing for a more customized pricing model based on viewing preferences.

Even though there is no change in Mobile plan rate, the Super and Premium yearly plans have received a price hike of Rs. 200 and Rs. 700, respectively. Quarterly Super and Premium plans have received a price hike of Rs. 50 and Rs. 200, respectively.
Impact on Existing Subscribers
In a move to prevent disruption for its current user base, JioHotstar confirmed that existing subscribers will not be affected by the price changes or content restructuring.
Current users will continue on their legacy plans and pricing models indefinitely, provided that their auto-renewals remain active. The new pricing and packaging will primarily apply to new sign-ups effective late January.
Market Scale and Growth
The subscription update arrives as JioHotstar reports significant growth milestones. The platform has crossed 1 billion downloads on Google Play and currently serves over 450 million monthly active users covering 100% of India’s pin-codes.
The platform currently hosts over 300,000 hours of content. This includes major sporting IPs, programming from over 100 network channels, a dedicated anime hub, and a “creator-led revolution” via its Sparks segment. The company indicates that the revised subscription framework is intended to sustain investments in this content ecosystem and support technological enhancements for living-room experiences.
