Lenovo has announced four new Android tablets, A10-70, A8-50, A7-50 and A7-30 in the A-series. The A10-70 has a 10.1-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) display, A8-50 has a 8-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) and both the A7-50 and A7-30 have 7-inch displays. All these run on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). Samsung has finally unveiled its Galaxy Tab4 series – Galaxy Tab4 10.1, Galaxy Tab4 8.0 and Galaxy Tab4 7.0 after several leaks. These tablets have 10.1-inch, 8.0-inch and 7.0-inch WXGA displays with 16:10 screen ratio. All these are powered by 1.2 quad-core processors and run on Android 4.4 (KitKat) and come in WiFi and 3G / LTE variants. These have Group Play, Samsung Link and Samsung WatchON software features. Press images of Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 surfaced last week, now image of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 has surfaced. @evleaks has posted press images of the 10.1-inch tablet in Black and White colors. Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0, 8.0 and 10.1 got confirmed officially, the LTE version cleared FCC recently and the specifications showed up in benchmarks recently. It has a 7-inch (800 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.3 GHz dual-core Cortex A7 processor, Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). After confirming the presence of a mobile-enabled version in the works when launching the Surface 2, the Redmond giant has finally taken the wraps off Microsoft Surface 2 with LTE 4G on the AT&T network, retailing at a price of 679$ for the 64 GB version. The Surface was Microsoft’s first play as a PC hardware company. The first product, called Surface RT, was largely a flop due to poor usability and performance, and even took a write down in the company’s earnings. Surface 2, the successor, was launched almost an year later, with good reviews and better reception from consumers, but still not as popular as Microsoft would like. Touted as a portable productive machine, the Surface 2 in its initial variants lacked a LTE chip for mobile data, which was apparently a highly requested feature, and hence we are seeing it now, in the form of the slightly modified LTE variant of the Surface 2.

Earlier this month Samsung accidentally confirmed the Galaxy Tab 4 series in three variants, 10.1, 8.0 and 7.0. Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 (SM-T530) and Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 (SM-T330) already clear FCC. Recently the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 (SM-T535), the LTE variant of the tablet has passed through FCC, that confirms LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, GSM, W-CDMA and Bluetooth connectivity. HP has launched HP 8, a 7.85-inch tablet in the U.S. It has a 7.85-inch (1024 x 768 pixels) IPS multitouch display, powered by a quad-core Allwinner A31s processor and runs on Android 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 2-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera. It has WiFi, but lacks a SIM card slot, so you lose voice calling capabilities. Asus was the first company that introduced the concept of Android transformer tablet which a detachable dock. Asus was also the first company that came up with Asus PadFone concept. Despite being innovations of their own, both the series failed commercially. But Asus isn;t giving up. They have launched a lot of Transformer products till now and according to rumors from Italy, the company is working on two more models of Asus Transformer series.

LG announced the G Pad 8.3 tablet back in September last year. It introduced the G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition in December, that we reviewed recently. LG has released the G Pad 8.3 LTE exclusively on Verizon Wireless in the US. Except the LTE support via SIM card slot, other features are similar to the original LG G Pad 8.3. It has a 8-inch (1920 x 1200 pixels) full HD display, quad-core 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Android Jelly Bean OS. According to Gartner, the year 2013 was a pretty good year for tablets – a total of 195.4 million units were shipped during the year. The almost 200 million units is a 68% increase over the number of tablets shipped during 2012. The report also says that the sales of tablets was boosted by the low end smaller tablets and hence Android continues to dominate the tablet market. You can check out the numbers below.
Samsung unveiled the Gear Fit, the company’s first fitness band last week. The South Korean manufacturer was expected to unveil the Galaxy 4 series at the MWC 2014 last week, but it didn’t happen. Samsung Gear Fit micro site lists Galaxy Tab4 (10.1/8.0./7.0) in the Gear fit compatibility list, which confirms the existence of these upcoming tablets. HP had announced the HP Slate 7 Extreme sometime in September. HP Slate 7 Extreme is just a rebranded version of the NVIDIA Tegra Note and comes with HP’s own Direct Stylus. The HP Slate 7 Extreme looks like a variant of the NVidia Tegra Note, but with HP branding.
Micromax Funbook Ultra HD P580, the company’s latest tablet in the Funbook series is now available from HomeShop18. It has a 7.8-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It has 3G support via a SIM card slot and has an ear piece with voice calling capabilities.
