Facebook Home on Nexus 4

Facebook Home, the launcher aimed at overtaking your Android phone has just leaked out in a half baked beta release. We took it for a spin on our Google Nexus 4, and found it to be quite buggy, but using the UI for the first time was a fresh experience. So, what do we think about the Facebook home? Will it change your mind about Facebook on mobile? Should you go for Facebook home, if you are a heavy user? We will try to answer them in our initial hands on impressions, past the video below –

Facebook Home beta leaks out ahead of official release

Facebook announced the Facebook Home last week that comes pre-installed with the HTC First. It is expected to launch on Google Play for select Android devices on April 12th, but the pre-release version has been leaked ahead online. The Facebook Home is an Android Launcher with Cover feed that offers photos and updates from your newsfeed, Notifications, Chat Heads, App Launcher to launch Facebook apps and more. Gaudi Bruno for iPad is an interactive story book for Kids

Gaudi Bruno or Bruno the brown bear is an interactive and narrative story book app for iPad. It is developed by Tales Factory, Italian digital publishing house who creates children’s stories. This tells the story of Bruno and his adventures in an interesting and interactive way. There are three different languages, English, Italian and Spanish to select from. This iPad app is aimed at children from 3-7 years of age. This also reads the book loud in the language you choose, and has interactive elements at several places of the book that would let the kids explore the world of bruno.  If you are looking for an interactive story for the iPhone, check out Kitz, the Street Cat, an unique apptoon for kids. Evernote has updated their Hello app for iPhone to version 2.1 that brings lot of new features including a Passcode lock for premium users, Flash control that would let you scann glossy cards easier and lots more new features. Evernote introduced option to scan business cards, a premium feature in the previous version of Hello app with 2 months of free usage as a promotion. Now they have increased the free usage for one more month, after that it would be available only for premium users. Facebook Home brings the social network to your Android homescreen

Facebook today announced its brand new Android Launcher called Facebook Home which will serve as a gateway to the social network’s services. The launcher is meant to replace the default skin on your Android device and hooks in with Facebook centric services. Predictably, the focus here is on sharing and keeping a track of whatever your friends are up to.

PhotoCal with Event app for iPhone and iPad lets you arrange and view photos in a calendar view

PhotoCal with Event for iPhone and iPad

PhotoCal with Event, is a new application for iPhone and iPad that arrange and view your photos more efficiently, while keeping you up to date on your events. It lets you arrange your images in chronological order and displays them on your monthly calendar view along with all of your upcoming appointments and errands. This app would be much useful to view photos based on a date, since it arranges the images according to the date they were taken and displays them on your monthly calendar view, instead of searching for a picture in the default camera roll. Angry Birds Friends soon on Android and iOS

Rovio has announced that Angry Birds Friends would be available soon for Android, iPhone and iPad. Angry Birds Friends was released on Facebook last year. It has new weekly tournaments that would let you win bronze, silver and gold crown on the levels, play new weekly levels and earn power-ups through tournament mode. There are also daily rewards and option to send and receive gifts of power-ups with your friends. You can also share details about your accomplishments with friends. Chrome for Android updated with password and autofill sync

Google Chrome for Android Autofill and Password Sync

Chrome for Android has been updated to version 26 that brings the password and autofill Sync that was available in the Chrome Beta for Android last month. The Password sync would let you sync passwords easily, and the auto fill option lets you fill out forms quickly on a small screen. The new experimental data compression feature from the beta version is also available for the this stable version of Chrome for Android. Firefox for Android updated with better private browsing and support for more devices

Firefox for Android v20 Private Browser

Firefox browser for Android has been updated to version 20. This version brings better private browsing and Per-tab private browsing lets you switch between private and standard tabs within the same browsing session. You can also without closing or changing your current browsing session. This version also brings support for Android devices with 384MB of RAM and QVGA displays. Twitter updates its mobile apps, Android version goes HOLO

Twitter, the world’s only realtime social network has updated its mobile apps today. It includes a major update for Android and minor updates for Twitter for iPhone and the mobile web app. The main improvement of the Android app is that it has finally went HOLO, the design language that Google has been preaching to third party devs since 4.0 ICS, with blessings from lead designer Matias Duarte. Minor improvements to all the apps is that they get improved cards support with deep linked app links inside the details page.

SkyDrive updated for iOS, brings iPhone 5 support and high resolution image downloads

SkyDrive, the cloud storage solution from Microsoft has its app updated for iOS finally, after a long time. The reason it took so long was due to Apple wanting a cut from Microsoft for an in-app subscription model for SkyDrive storage upgrades, initially planned for the iOS app. The app was reportedly re submitted a number of times until now, when Apple and Microsoft have finally come into a consensus on what to do with the IAP type subscription. Microsoft now doesn’t have an option for storage upgrade inside the app but users can always upgrade the storage from the web.

Viber promises HD sound quality for voice calls that would offer crisp and clear sound. Viber also lets you send free texts including group conversations, share location in messages and also share photos from your phone’s gallery easily. It supports 30 languages. Asus Transformer Pad Infinity Android 4.2 update starts rolling out

Asus has announced that the Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) OTA (over-the-air) update v 10.6.1.14.4 for the Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T would start roll out starting from today.  The Asus Transformer Pad Infinity was announced last year at MWC with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It received the Android 4.1 update last year, and promised the Android 4.2 update for the TF700T in Q2 2013 last month . The Asus Transformer Pad TF300 was the first non-Nexus tablet to receive the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update, which rolled out last month.
