Xiaomi launched the Redmi 3S and Redmi 3S Prime, budget 4G smartphones with metal body in India back in August on Mi.com and Flipkart starting at Rs. 6999. Today Flipkart announced that it has sold over 1 million or 10 lakh units of these phones within 3 months of launch. Xiaomi recently said that it sold more than 2.3 million or 23 lakh units of Redmi Note 3 smartphones in India till September. Airtel Payments Bank, a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel today rolled out a pilot of its banking services in Rajasthan across 10,000 Airtel retail outlets, ahead of a full scale pan Indian launch. Customers in towns and villages across Rajasthan will now be able to open bank accounts at Airtel retail outlets, which will also act as Airtel banking points and offer a range of basic, convenient banking services such as cash deposit & withdrawal facilities. Airtel said that this is the first payments bank in the country to go live.

Panasonic has launched Eluga Mark 2, the company’s latest 4G smartphone with VoLTE support. It has a 5.5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD IPS on-cell display, is powered by a 1.3 GHz Quad-Core MediaTek MT6753 processor and runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). India shipped 197.5 million mobile handsets, of which 78.4 million were alone shipped during the third quarter of the calendar year, according to CMR’s India Monthly Mobile Handset Market Review Report for 3Q 2016 ending September 2016. The report revealed that 66% of the phones in Q3 were Made in India.

After Tamil Nadu, Vodafone has started offering 4G-ready SIM cards to its existing customers in Punjab (including Chennai) through Vodafone stores, Vodafone Mini Stores and close to 6,000 multi brand outlets, ahead of 4G roll out in the circle. Initially the 4G services will be launched in select towns of Punjab, said the company. It will be based on 1800 MHz band, similar to most other circles.
