Micromax is the leading mobile phone vendor in India based on shipments, according to a report from CounterPoint Research. Last week’s Canalys report revealed that Motorola overtook Nokia to become the fourth largest smartphone vendor in India in Q2 2014. According to the CounterPoint Research report, Indian mobile phone market grew 2% annually and smartphone segment grew 68% annually. Milagrow has launched M2Pro 3G Call, new range of tablets. The Milagrow M2Pro 3G Call 8GB comes with a 6.5-inch WVGA screen, powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core MediaTek processor, has a 2-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front-facing camera. Both the Milagrow M2Pro 3G Call 16GB and 32GB variants have 7.9-inch (1024 x 768 pixels) capacitive touch screen display, 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. All these run on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean).

Celkon has launched Signature Two A500, the company’s new budget smartphone in the Signature series in partnership with Flipkart. It has a 5-inch FWVGA screen, powered by a 1.3 GHz dual-core MediaTek processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). Obi Mobiles launched the Octopus S520, the company’s first smartphone last month. We already brought the unboxing of the Octopus S520 smartphone, here we have the benchmarks. It is powered by a 1.66 GHz Octa-Core MediaTek MT6592 processor which has 8 ARM Cortex-A7 CPUs and is based on 28nm HPM. It has a Mali 450-MP4 GPU, comes with a 5-inch HD display and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). We already have quite a few smartphones in India powered by the same Octa-Core chip. Acer has launched the Iconia A1-713, the company’s new Android tablet in India. It was unveiled at the New York event back in April along with the A1-713HD and packs a 7-inch (1024 x 600 pixels) display, powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT8382 processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean), upgradable to Android 4.4 (KitKat). Motorola is the fourth largest smartphone vendor by shipments in Q2 2014, overtaking Nokia (Microsoft), according to handset sales tracker Canalys. Few months back Motorola announced that it shipped 6.5 million smartphones globally in Q1 2014. According to the report, Motorola shipped 379,310 units of smartphones in India in Q1. The company did not reveal its global shipment data for Q2 yet, but the Canalys report says Motorola has shipped 955,650 units in the Q2 2014. Now the Smart Flo Mi-359 and Stellar 451 3G, affordable smartphones running on Android 4.4 are available on Saholic. It also has specialized zones for product demonstrations and customer interactions. Each Plaza will have three distinct zones – the Greeting Zone, Consulting Zone and Interactive Repair Zone. Earlier this week we reported that Xolo would launch its Play 8X-1000 smartphone with HIVE UI in the first week of August. The company has just sent out press invites for the HIVE event. Asus launched the Zenfone series of smartphones in India last month. We reviewed the Zenfone 5 recently. The Zenfone 6, top-end model in the series with a 6-inch HD display is priced at Rs. 16,999. It is one of the few large-screen smartphones in this price range to launch in India recently, apart from smartphones like the Xolo Q2500 PocketPad and Lava Magnum X604 from local manufacturers. Asus has been using Intel Atom processors for its Fonepad tablets, even the Zenfone smartphones are powered by Intel Atom processors. Airtel has launched 4G services in Nashik, Maharashtra. The company launched 4G services in Pune, Maharashtra in 2012. It launched 4G services in Nagpur last week. Nashik is the 15th city in the country to get Airtel 4G. Customers in Nashik can access 4G on dongles and Wi-Fi CPEs (Customer Premise Equipment/ routers), but the company has not launched 4G on mobile in the city yet. Samsung has officially launched the Samsung Galaxy Star 2, Galaxy Star Advance and Galaxy Ace NXT smartphones in India. The Galaxy Star 2 has a 3.5-inch HVGA display, powered by 1GHz single core processor and has 2-megapixel rear camera. The Galaxy Star Advance has a 4.3-inch WVGA screen, powered by a 1.2 GHz single-core processor and comes with a 3-megapixel rear camera with LED flash. The Galaxy Ace NXT went on sale earlier this month and packs a 4-inch WVGA screen and comes with a similar single-core processor and 3MP rear camera with LED flash as the Star Advance.

Xiaomi launched its Mi3 smartphone at a competitive price tag of Rs. 13999 in India. It sold 20,000 units of the smartphone in the first two batches of sale.
