Apple has launched TD-LTE variants of the iPad Air and iPad mini with Retina display in China. This would brings both TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE support along with standard GSM and WiFi capabilities. Apple already sells WiFi + Cellular variant of the iPad Air and iPad mini in China with support for GSM and CDMA. The LTE model is also priced similar to the CDMA variant. The game is available as a free download for Android that lets you play first 2 levels for free and has in-app purchase to unlock other levels at $2.99. The iOS app costs $2.99 directly. Microsoft releases Microsoft Office for Apple iPad – Word , Excel and PowerPoint

At an event in San Francisco today, Microsoft’s new CEO Satya Nadella announced the availability of Microsoft Office for the iPad. The company has released 3 new iPad apps for Word , Excel and PowerPoint . The news is not a big surprise considering this is a much expected move but instant availability on the App Store is a great piece of news of Office users especially those with a Office 365 subscription. The apps are free for download and event viewing office documents is free. But editing the documents requires an active Office 365 subscription. This is clearly Microsoft’s attempt at getting more users to sign up for their cloud based Office offering.

The apps just went live on the US iTunes App Store at 11AM Pacific time and 2PM Eastern time. The apps are free to download and viewing office documents is free. However to edit the documents, an Office 365 subscription is required.

Rovio and Raketspel bring a fun word game – Word Monsters

Rovio has just launched the RPG version of Angry birds in the form of Angry Birds Epic and now, they have tied hands with Raketspel to bring a fun word game with monsters – Word Monsters. Word Monsters tries to combine monsters with word search and this new fun filled gameplay allows you to play in a theme based word search or a timed game.

The new update for these platforms adds six new tracks around Asian-inspired location, the Great Wall and four new cars. Apple discontinues iPad 2, brings back iPad 4 with Retina Display starting at $399

Apple introduced the iPad Air with a Apple A7 64 bit processor, M7 motion co-processor and a slim design last October. At the same time it discontinued the 4th generation iPad with Retina Display, few months after the launch and reduced the price of iPad 2 to $399. Today, Apple has decided to discontinue the 3-year old iPad 2 to bring back the 4th generation iPad with Retina Display. Angry Birds Epic arrives on Apple App Store in few countries

Last week, Rovio teased that they were introducing an Angry Birds themed RPG game and that it would be called Angry Birds Epic. Today, the game has gone live in App stores of countries like New Zealand, Australia and Canada. This is just a soft release and when the game is ready, it will be available for everybody across Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Microsoft Windows Store.

It also has new user interface enhancements, that brings more rounded icons, more polished control center and notification center. It also brings performance improvements to iPhone 4.

Google has updated its Gmail app for iPhone and iPad to version 3.0, that brings the most expected background app refresh feature finally. This lets all your Gmail messages pre-fetched and synced, when you open the app. The background app refresh was introduced in the iOS 7. Apple iPad Mini with Retina Display Review

Introduction

Apple had introduced the original iPad Mini without the RETINA display and that pretty much confirmed that the second generation of Apple iPad Mini would come with the RETINA display. As expected, Apple crammed a high resolution display(same resolution as the iPad Air) into the second generation iPad Mini which Apple calls – iPad Mini with Retina Display. In addition to sporting a high resolution display, the iPad Mini competes with Apple’s iPad Air in terms of specifications. Apple is using the same processing power inside each of its flagship iOS device – iPhone 5s, iPad Air and iPad Mini with Retina Display.

Fleksy iOS keyboard alternative now out of beta

Back in December 2013, Fleksy Keyboard, one of the popular third party keyboards in the Android market announced an SDK for iOS apps which allows the apps to use Fleksy Keyboard inside the application. Apple imposes strict rules on third party content inside its core features and that is on of the reasons Fleksy has to be used by the developer in his application(and not by the user like in Android).

Microsoft’s SkyDrive is now OneDrive

Microsoft was involved in a Trademark fight over the name “SkyDrive” and it lost. So, they had to rebrand it and from now on, Microsoft’s SkyDrive will be called as “Microsoft OneDrive”. Microsoft’s OneDrive is one among the many cloud storage options offered by big companies of the Internet – Google offers Google Drive, Dropbox, Box and many others.
