Rightware launched the Basemark OS II cross-platform benchmarking tool for Android, iPhone, iPad and Windows Phone 8 last month. Today it updated the Basemark X cross-platform benchmarking tool to version 1.1 and has also released it on Windows Phone 8. Basemark X that was released last year was based on Unity 4.0 gaming engine, the version 1.1 Unity gaming engine version 4.2.2. This also adds new features and a new test called Hangar. As usual you get configurable settings and score breakdown in results screen in the full version. The very infamous Flappy Bird was introduced to smartphones and tablets back in 2013, but it gained widespread popularity only in the past couple of weeks. Google Maps app for iPhone, iPad and Android already shows you alternate routes when you request for it while navigating. Google has updated these apps to show notifications if there’s a faster route. Google maps already shows bands of red, yellow and green along your route based on traffic conditions. The new notification option now lets you reach the destination faster with dynamic rerouting so that you can avoid heavy traffic in your chosen route. Google announced their 35$ dongle – Chromecast at the Google I/O 2013 event last year. At launch, Chromecast was restricted to US and eventually started rolling out to other countries. It is officially available in India and is priced around Rs. 3,300 from Amazon. What this Chromecast does is that it lets you stream content from your iOS or Android device or PC to your TV via WiFi.

In the latest report from IDC(International Data Corporation), tablet shipments have grown to 76.9 million in the last quarter of 2013. The 76.9 million number is a big increase of 62.4% over the previous quarter, but is a relatively small increase when compared to the sales during 2012 – an increase of 28.2% .
