Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 First Impressions

Samsung unveiled their new Tab S products in New York and surprisingly, they didn’t take much time to bring it to India either. There were two Tab S devices announced, S possibly standing for Super AMOLED, because, lets face it, these new Samsung tablets are all about the screen. In India, the Tab S 8.4 and the Tab S 10.5 were launched for Rs. 37,800 and Rs. 44,800 respectively, catering to the premium market segment with mobile-only versions, while in the US, Samsung has squarely targeted the Tab S devices at iPad Air and retina iPad mini price points with WiFi-only versions. These are clearly decisions driven by market necessities and strategy, so with that in mind, we took a look at the mini version of the Tab S first to detail our first impressions of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 –

Samsung Galaxy S5 LTE (SM-G900I) with Snapdragon 801 might launch in India soon

Samsung plans to launch the LTE variant of the Galaxy S5 (SM-G900I) in India soon, according to a report from Manish Khatri from Mahesh Telecom. The 3G variants of the Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900H) that was launched in India back in April is powered by a Octa-Core Exynos 5422 SoC with Intel XMM6360 for 3G HSPA+ ( up to 42 Mbps) connectivity. The LTE (SM-G900I) variant will be powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801. Since all the flagship smartphones starting from the Galaxy S3 were launched only in 3G variants with Exynos chip, this would be the company’s first flagship smartphone with Snapdragon chip.

Samsung is in talks to acquire a smart home automation company SmartThings for $200 million, according to a report from TechCrunch. SmartThings is company that produces home automation products that can be controlled with an Android and iOS smartphone app.

The Indian version is powered by a 1.9 GHz Exynos 5420 Octa ( A15 1.9 GHz + A7 1.3 GHz) processor with ARM Mail T628 GPU, similar to the Tab S 8.4 . It has a 10.5-inch (2560×1600 pixel) WQXGA 16:10 Super AMOLED display and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). We’ve all heard about this device, the one that’s touted as the best looking Samsung phone ever. Not that the Korean maker has done much to change how it looks, but they’re definitely said to have changed what it is made out of. Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 Android 4.4 KitKat update now rolling out in India

Samsung has started rolling out the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) update for the Galaxy Grand 2 (SM-G7102) in India. It was launched earlier this year running Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean). The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 got the KitKat update in January,  Galaxy S4 got it in February and the Galaxy Note 2 got the update back in May in India.

Manish Khatri from Mahesh Telecom reports that the phone would be priced at Rs. 11,599 (MOP) and the MRP would be Rs. 13,390. Samsung Galaxy Ace NXT now on sale in India for Rs. 7399

We talked about an upcoming Samsung phone, the Galaxy NXT, a couple of days back, and the device has apparently gone on sale in the country already. Thanks to a benchmark listing, we got some insight into the device’s specs sheet that shouted entry-level. However, Mahesh Telecom from Mumbai is claiming to have the device in stock already, and has also posted a picture as proof (see below).

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 might come with retina scanner

Samsung is planning to include retina scanner on Galaxy Note 4. A tweet sent from Samsung Samsung Exynos Twitter account reads, “Security can be improved using features unique to us. That’s what we envision. What would you use”. Also, this tweet is supported by an image of a smartphone with an eye on it.
