Qualcomm launched its Design in India Challenge few months back, today it has announced 10 finalists of the first edition of the Challenge. “In association with the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), the Qualcomm Design in India Challenge aims to catalyze the creation of a product and hardware design ecosystem in India in the domains of smartphones, tablets and Internet of Things (IoT) for agriculture, automotive, banking, education, healthcare, smart cities and wearables,” said Qualcomm.

Sunil Lalvani – President, Qualcomm India on Make in India

Qualcomm is looking to help make India a hub for design capabilities for smartphones, tablets and IoT. The company is also looking to leverage India’s engineering talent to scale innovation for both local consumption, and rest of the world. On those lines, Qualcomm is setting up an Innovation Lab in Bangalore, India to provide technical and engineering support to the home grown companies.

In the very recent past, Qualcomm had also hosted the Design in India Challenge in association with NASSCOM to accelerate the creation of a product and hardware design ecosystem in India for healthcare, education, banking, agriculture, automotive, wearables and smartcities.

LG G5 supports Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 but Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge don’t

Earlier, it was expected that if you pack the latest processor from Qualcomm, it would in effect be able to have the fast charging properties of the particular processor. However, the OnePlus 2 showed that it is possible to remove the fast charging abilities if needed.  Similarly, now it seems that Samsung have bundled only QuickCharge 2.0 with their Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge while LG’s G5 is capable of doing QuickCharge 3.0.

Qualcomm to supply LTE-A carrier aggregation support tech to Micromax and Samsung in India

Qualcomm will supply LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation support technology to smartphone makers such as Micromax and Samsung, according to a latest report from the ET. Carrier aggregation used in LTE-Advanced increases the bandwidth, thereby increasing the bitrate. Back in 2014, Qualcomm partnered with LG and Airtel to offer LTE Advanced with carrier aggregation on LG G2 that is powered by Snapdragon 800 processor.
