Samsung today announced that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor will use Samsung’s 2nd generation 14nm FinFET process. It also announced that it has started mass production of its latest chips, including the Exynos 8 Octa 8890 SoC that uses its 14nm LPP (Low-Power Plus) process, the 2nd generation of the company’s 14nm FinFET process technology. Letv Le Max Pro is the first smartphone to be announced with Snapdragon 820

At its CES 2016 event Qualcomm showed off the Letv Le Max Pro, which becomes the first smartphone to be announced with Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 820 processor and Qualcomm Sense ID Fingerprint technology that will offer more secure authentication on mobile devices. Snapdragon 820 also has 802.11ad multi-gigabit Wi-Fi and X12 LTE with Cat. 12/13 download speeds of up to 600 Mbps. Other features are similar to the Letv Le Max that was introduced last year. Qualcomm signs 3G/4G patent agreement with QiKu, Haier and Tianyu

Qualcomm has signed a new 3G and 4G Chinese Patent License Agreement with QiKu, Haier and Tianyu. Qiku is a joint venture between Qihu and Coolpad while Haier is a Chinese home appliances and consumer electronics company.

Qualcomm is renaming Snapdragon 620 and 618 to Snapdragon 652 and 650

Qualcomm has announced that it is renaming Snapdragon 620 and 618 to the Snapdragon 652 and 650, respectively. Both these were introduced earlier this year and have LTE support, including Global Mode RF360 support. Reason for the change in name is to better reflect the positioning and capabilities of these two processors since the Snapdragon 620 and 618 have significant user experience and performance advantages compared to other 600 tier processors 615, 616 and 617. Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 scores 131648 points in AnTuTu

Qualcomm had announced the Snapdragon 820 processor earlier this year and it will be available to OEM in early 2016. The processor that was officially launched today in China has appeared on AnTuTu benchmark results.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 to support 8GB of RAM

Although we are yet to see a device with the Snapdragon 820 powering it, rumors have already began flowing about its successor, the Snapdragon 830. The Snapdragon 830 first came in the news when it was rumored to be based on a 10nm manufacturing process. Now, a new rumor indicates that the chipset will support upto 8GB of RAM.

Intel today announced that it has appointed Dr. Venkata Murthy Renduchintala as president of its newly created Client and Internet of Things (IoT) Businesses and Systems Architecture Group. He has also been appointed as an executive officer of Intel Corporation. Previously, he was executive vice president of Qualcomm Technologies Inc. and co-president of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT), where he was responsible for leading Qualcomm’s semiconductor business in the computing, mobile and adjacent segments. Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 14nm SoC with 64-bit Kryo CPU and Adreno 530 GPU launched

Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon 820 at the MWC earlier this year. At that time it confirmed that it will use custom 64-bit CPU architecture in their own ARMv8-based Qualcomm Kryo CPU and also said that it will be based on FinFET process node. Later it confirmed Adreno 530 GPU for the chip and also said that it will offer 40% graphics performance, compute capabilities, and power usage compared to Adreno 430. It recently confirmed X12 LTE modem and Snapdragon Smart protect – Real-time, on-device anti-malware technology for the SoC. Today the company detailed the chip at an event in New York City.
