Qualcomm revenue up 13% YoY, net income up 51% YoY in Q4 FY16, 211 million chips shipped

Qualcomm has reported revenue for fourth financial quarter and year that ended September 25, 2016. It has reported revenue of $6.2 billion, which is up 13% compared to the same quarter last year and non-GAAP earnings per share of $1.28 for the quarter, beating the average analyst estimate of $1.22. Total revenue for the fiscal year is 23.6 billion, which is up 7% compared to last year. Operating income was 1.8 billion, up 58% YoY and net income was $1.6 billion, up to 51% YoY. Qualcomm announces first gigabit class LTE mobile device and network

Qualcomm has teamed up with Telstra, Ericsson, and NETGEAR, for world’s first Gigabit Class LTE mobile device and network. The device is the NETGEAR Mobile Router MR1100, which uses the Snapdragon X16 LTE modem designed to deliver Gigabit Class LTE connectivity as well as Qualcomm Wi-Fi solutions designed to achieve Gigabit Wi-Fi. Qualcomm X50 5G modem with up to 5Gbps download speeds announced

Qualcomm unveiled X50 5G modem at 2016 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong. The X50 5G modem supports download speeds of up to 5Gbps which is 5x faster than the fastest 4G modem. It uilizes wide bandwidths available in the 28 GHz millimeter wave (mmWave) band combined with advanced signal processing technologies.

Qualcomm just announced Snapdragon 653, 626 and 427 SoCs at the Qualcomm 2016 4G/5G Summit in Hong Kong. The Snapdragon 653 is the successor of Snapdragon 652 offering 10% improved performance compared to the predecessor, Snapdragon 626 is the successor of Snapdragon 625, offering 10% improved performance compared to the predecessor and the Snapdragon 427 is new processor in the 400 series, which is an upgrade to Snapdragon 425. All these have Integrated Snapdragon X9 LTE modem for 50% faster upload speeds than the X8 LTE, Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology and Dual camera support. Both the chips are aimed for embedded applications in digital signage, set-top-boxes, medical imaging, point of sale systems, industrial robotics, and other Internet of Things (IoT) related applications.

Qualcomm has signed a 3G/4G China Patent License Agreement with vivo. Qualcomm and OPPO have entered into a new 3G and 4G patent license agreement for China. Under the terms of the agreement, Qualcomm has granted OPPO a royalty bearing patent license to develop, manufacture and sell 3G (WCDMA and CDMA2000) and 4G, including 3-mode (LTE-TDD, TD-SCDMA and GSM) complete terminals.
