Samsung just announced Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones at its Unpacked 2018 event at the MWC 2018 in Barcelona, as it had promised. The main highlight of the smartphones is the variable aperture cameras. The S9 has a 12-megapixel rear camera with variable aperture tech that uses f/1.5 aperture for night shots for a brighter picture and f/2.4 aperture for normal shots in daytime. The S9+ has a secondary 12MP Telephoto lens for live focus for bokeh effect with background blur. Nokia 7 Plus Android One smartphone with 6-inch FHD+ display, Snapdragon 660, Dual ZEISS rear cameras announced

HMD Global introduced Nokia 7 Plus, Android One smartphone at the MWC 2018, as expected. It has a 6-inch 18:9 Full HD+ display, is powered by Snapdragon 660, has dual rear sensors with ZEISS optics that combine an ultra-sensitive 12MP wide-angle primary camera for both low-light and extra bright conditions and a secondary 13MP camera for 2x optical zoom.

HMD Global  announced Nokia 6 (2018) and the successor of last year’s Nokia 6 China last month. Today at its MWC 2018 it introduced another Nokia 6 smartphone for global markets, which is an Android One smartphone. It has a 5.5-inch 1080p 2.5D curved glass display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, is powered by Snapdragon 630 Mobile platform, runs on Android 8.0 (Oreo), has a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, dual-tone LED flash, ZEISS optics and a 8-megapixel front-facing camera. Qualcomm’s future Snapdragon 5G mobile chipsets to use Samsung’s 7nm LPP EUV process technology

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC that will power this year’s flagship smartphones is manufactured on second generation 10LPP process from Samsung. Today Samsung and Qualcomm has expanded its foundry partnership for on EUV process technology. Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 VR reference design announced

Couple of months after the announcement of Snapdragon 845, Qualcomm today introduced new virtual reality (VR) reference platform based on Snapdragon 845 Mobile Platform, ahead of Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018 in Barcelona next week. Similar to last year’s Snapdragon 835 VR platform, it is partnering with GoerTek that allows for global manufacturers to quickly build commercial designs based on the Snapdragon 845 Mobile VR Platform.

Earlier this week Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon X24 as the world’s first 7nm LTE modem with up to 2Gbps download speeds as the successor of the Snapdragon X20 that is being used by in the Snapdragon 845 10nm SoC. The company will likely introduce the Snapdragon 855 later this year or early next year. Now hints of SDM855 points to the chip using 7nm process technology.

Qualcomm rejects Broadcom’s revised buyout offer

Last week Broadcom made its final offer to acquire Qualcomm at a value of $121 Billion, which is $82 per share which consist of $60.00 in cash and $22.00 per share in Broadcom  stocks. Qualcomm today announced that its Board of Directors unanimously rejected the unsolicited proposal by Broadcom. This comes after the first offer that was made by Broadcom got rejected by Qualcomm back in November and in December it rejected directors nominated by Broadcom to replace the Qualcomm’s existing board of directors. Nokia and Qualcomm achieve 5G NR Interoperability

Back in September last year, Qualcomm and Nokia announced plans to conduct interoperability testing and over-the-air field trials based on the 5G New Radio (NR) Release-15 specifications being developed by 3GPP. Today both the companies have announced that they have successfully completed interoperability testing in the 3.5Ghz and 28Ghz spectrum compliant with the global 3GPP 5G NR Release 15 standard using Nokia AirScale base station and device prototypes from Qualcomm Technologies.

Broadcom yet again bids to acquire Qualcomm at higher price

Broadcom back in November has proposed an offer to acquire Qualcomm, and the chipset maker rejected the offer saying that the proposal dramatically undervalues Qualcomm and comes with significant regulatory uncertainty. However, Broadcom today has yet again proposed an updated offer at a higher $121 billion and the all outstanding shares of Qualcomm for $60.00 per share in cash and $22.00 per share in Broadcom stock.
