At the Qualcomm, China Tech Day event in Beijing, Lenovo, Xiaomi, Vivo, OPPO have shown interest in Qualcomm to support the 5G initiative named as “5G Pioneer” in China and introduce 5G New Radio (NR) standard-compliant commercial devices expected as early as 2019. Qualcomm hit with 997 million euro fine by the EU over Apple mobile chip deals

Update: Qualcomm has confirmed it has received a decision from the European Commission (EC) relating to an expired agreement between Qualcomm and Apple Inc., which was in effect from 2011 through 2016, for the pricing of modem chips. Qualcomm said that it strongly disagrees with the decision and will immediately appeal it to the General Court of the European Union. It also said that EC decision does not relate to Qualcomm’s licensing business and has no impact on ongoing operations. Lenovo Miix 630 Hands On

Lenovo has partnered with Qualcomm and Microsoft to launch a Snapdragon powered Always Connected PC – Miix 630 at CES 2018.  HP and Asus launched their products in December last year at the Snapdragon Summit.  I got my hands on the Miix 630 2-1 detachable and it is a pretty nice effort by Lenovo.

Qualcomm at the CES 2018 introduced Low Power Bluetooth SoC QCC5100 series with support for third-party Voice Assistant Services, Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo, Qualcomm aptX HD audio and Integrated Hybrid ANC for wireless earbuds, hearables and headsets. Qualcomm also said that it reduces power consumption by up to 65% for both voice calls and music streaming, compared to previous single-chip Bluetooth audio solutions. Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 and Snapdragon 640 specifications surface

Qualcomm introduced Snapdragon 660 and Snapdragon 630 high-end Mobile Platforms back in May this year, which is being used in most top-end and mid-rage phones. Now specifications of their successors – Snapdragon 670 and Snapdragon 640 have surfaced in China. According to the rumors, Qualcomm will finally move to 10nm LPP processor technology for its high-end “Snapdragon 600” series with the Snapdragon 670, but it will stick to 14nm LPP tech for the mid-range Snapdragon 640 SoC.

The Qualcomm-made audio DAC supports playback of formats at up to 384KHz and 32 bits, including the obscure DSD format. Earlier this year it introduced Aqstic USB-C Headset Code WHS9420, single chip USB audio SoC platforms designed specifically for USB-C connected audio devices. Qualcomm on the second day of its second annual Snapdragon Technology Summit announced Snapdragon 845, its next-generation Mobile Platform for mobile devices that is manufactured on second generation 10LPP process from Samsung. It promises immersive multimedia experiences including eXtended reality (XR), on-device artificial intelligence (AI), lightning-fast connectivity, and also has new secure processing unit (SPU) to offer the best security for premium, flagship mobile devices.
