Qualcomm at the Qualcomm 5G Summit today announced new capabilities and milestones for the Snapdragon X70 5G Modem-RF System after it was announced at the MWC a couple of months back. The company’s fifth-generation 5G modem-to-antenna solution uses world’s first 5G AI processor in a modem-RF system to achieve 10 Gigabit 5G downloads, low latency, coverage, and power efficiency.

Qualcomm’s custom Nuvia processors for Windows PCs now expected in late 2023

Qualcomm purchased Nuvia in July 2021, which is a company that used to specialize CPU and technology design. At the Investor Day 2021 in November, the company said that it will start building its own chips for laptops in 2022. Today, during its earnings call, Qualcomm’s President and CEO Cristiano Amon confirmed that the company is still working on its own chips. Qualcomm introduced its flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Mobile platform at its Snapdragon Tech Summit 2021 in December. Qualcomm partners with Square Enix for Snapdragon Spaces

Qualcomm has announced a partnership with game developer Square Enix, where the two companies will work on new extended reality (XR) experiences through the Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform. Along with this, Qualcomm also announced a $100 million “Snapdragon Metaverse Fund” to help companies and developers build the foundation of Qualcomm’s metaverse.

Qualcomm has announced a new partnership with ESL Gaming to launch a global mobile esports ecosystem called the Snapdragon Pro Series. It will consist of a global, multi-genre mobile esports competition and will culminate in a live masters final tournament with prize pool of nearly $2 million.

Qualcomm validates Samsung’s LPDDR5X DRAM for use with Snapdragon SoCs

Samsung today announced that Qualcomm  has validated Samsung’s 14-nanometer (nm) based 14nm-based 16Gb LPDDR5X DRAM for use on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon mobile platforms. The company introduced the LPDDR5X DRAM in November last year, and it promises data processing speeds of up to 8.5 Gbps compared to 6.4Gbps in LPDDR5. Global smartphone SoC shipments record 5% YoY growth in Q4 2021; MediaTek leads with 33% share: Report

According to a new report from Counterpoint Research, the global smartphone AP (Application Processor)/SoC (System on Chip) witnessed a growth of 5% YoY during 2021. 5G-capable SoCs accounted for half of total shipments, and the market was led by MediaTek, Qualcomm and Apple.

Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 5100 and 5100+ for wearables said to be in the works

Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon Wear 4100 based on new ultra-low power hybrid architecture in 2020. Now the company is said to be working on the successors – Snapdragon Wear 5100 and 5100+. The Snapdragon Wear 5100 is said to use Molded Lesser Package (MLP) that will feature SoC and PMC separately, and the Molded Embedded Package (MEP) in the Snapdragon Wear 5100+ is said to combine them.
