We first heard about Google’s Android One initiative last year when Sundar Pichai announced the project during the I/O keynote 2014. It then later kicked-off with India in September and was further expanded to many other emerging markets like Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and many more. Lava has officially launched pixel V1, the company’s first Android One smartphone in partnership with Google. It has a 5.5-inch HD IPS display with minimal bezels, is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek processor and runs on Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) with updates directly from Google. It has a 8-megapixel rear camera (enhanced to 13-megapixels) with LED flash and a 5-megapixel (enhanced to 8-megapixels) front-facing camera. It has dual SIM support and 3G connectivity. Google has released Spotlight Stories 360-degree movies app for iPhone. This was originally developed by Motorola Mobility’s Advanced Technology And Products (ATAP) and was first introduced with Motorola Moto X as Spotlight Player back in 2013. It was released for Android in May. It has 360-degree movies created by critically-acclaimed filmmakers that offer 3D and 2D animation, full-sphere surround sound, and uses phone’s sensor fusion techniques. Lava Iris X5 4G has surfaced in GFXBench (via) benchmark listing. This is likely to be the upcoming Android One smartphone from Lava that was expected to launch today according to a ET report. Looks like the launch is not happening today and got postponed. Coming to the listing, it reveals 2GB RAM and a MediaTek SoC that coincides with the earlier report. Even though it shows it has a 4.6-inch display, it could feature a 5-inch display as reported earlier.
