BlackBerry rolls out new Black Friday deals

BlackBerry is luring customers to buy its smartphone with a couple of attractive Black Friday deals. The company is launching a trade up program for iPhone users that want to convert to a BlackBerry Passport.

BlackBerry is offering iPhone owners up to $550 for their device in turn for a BlackBerry Passport purchase. Available on in the U.S. and Canada,the BlackBerry Passport Trade-Up Program starts on December 1 and ending February 13. iPhone users upgrading to a BlackBerry Passport will get up to $400 USD/CAD for their iPhone, plus an additional $150 USD ($200 CAD) in the form of a Visa Prepaid Card.

Blackberry is accepting every iPhone model since the 4s, but that model will only net you $90 in addition to the $150 card. In addition, the Black Friday deal also includes a low-cost offer for the BlackBerry Z30 which is available for just $225. The promotional value is based upon the condition and model of the Apple iPhone traded in. New BlackBerry Passports must be purchased on or from ShopBlackBerry.com or purchased from, shipped from and sold by Amazon.com after December 1, 2014 to qualify for the BlackBerry Passport Trade-Up program.

Customers can purchase a black BlackBerry Passport for $499 USD, Canadian customers can purchase a black BlackBerry Passport for $599 CAD.

BlackBerry Classic now available for pre-order at $449, launching on December 17

BlackBerry has started taking pre-order for the BlackBerry Classic, the company’s latest top-end smartphone with a physical QWERTY keyboard. It is the successor of the BlackBerry Q10 that was launched last year. The Classic was originally announced as BlackBerry Q20 back in February and it was expected to launch this month. BlackBerry has rolled out an update for its BBM app on BlackBerry 10, Android and iPhone that gets new privacy features such as  Timed Messages feature that lets you set a timer to control how long messages and pictures you share with contacts can be viewed and Message retraction feature that lets you cancel the message in case if you had sent it to the wrong person. BBM gets ephemeral messaging with new Timed Messages feature

BlackBerry has introduced new Timed Messages feature in BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) that lets you set a  timer to control how long messages and pictures you share with contacts can be viewed. There have been several ephemeral messaging apps after Snapchat. Recently LINE messenger got a similar feature called Hidden Chat. Microsoft even released an app for ephemeral messaging called WindUp for Windows Phone.

BlackBerry reports net loss of $207 million in Q2 FY15, ships 2.4 million smartphones

BlackBerry has reported their quarterly earnings report yesterday for their second quarter of fiscal 2015 that ended August 30, 2014. The company has posted a smaller loss of $207 million which amounts to about  $0.39 loss per share. It has reported $916 million revenue, which breaks down to 46% for hardware (compared to 39% last quarter), 46% for services (compared to 54% last quarter) and 8% for software. BlackBerry Blend cross platform data sharing app announced

BlackBerry announced the high end smartphone Passport with square display yesterday. Along with the phone, the company also launched BlackBerry Blend, a new app the allows you to display content from your BlackBerry, such as conversations, calendars, files, contacts and more, on other screens such as computers and tablets.

BlackBerry Passport with 4.5-inch 453 PPI Square Display announced

BlackBerry has officially announced the Passport, the company’s latest high-end smartphone at several separate events. It was first introduced by the company’s earnings back in June and packs a 4.5” diagonal (1440 x 1440 pixels) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, quad-core Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974-AA) processor and runs on BlackBerry OS 10.3 with new BlackBerry Assistant, BlackBerry own personal assistant. The focus here is completely on the wide portrait screen that it offers, which is exactly a square. Aimed at the enterprise, Blackberry claims that this screen will suit productivity better than any other narrow screen in the market. Among the other things, the Blackberry keyboard also gets an update, with touch enabled keys right above, on-screen.
