Nokia Illusion rumored to be 8 inch Windows RT tablet
Just a few weeks back Nokia announced its first offering in the tablet segment with the Windows RT running Lumia 2520. It looks like the Finnish company might be working on a companion device in the 8 inch tablet segment. Evan Blass, the person behind @evleaks today revealed that the Nokia Illusion will be their offering for those looking for a smaller tablet. For better or worse, this tablet too will be powered by Windows RT. Like the Lumia 2520, expect to see this powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.2Ghz and pack a Carl Zeiss equipped camera at the back.
Nokia Illusionist is going to be their second RT tablet, but in the eight-inch class.

We’ve seen the competition really heat up in the smaller tablet segment with the Nexus 7 and iPad Mini doing extremely well. This is partially because of the extra portability on offer and to some extent, the pricing advantage. Nokia’s sunlight readable display would be an even bigger selling point at the 8 inch size segment. We expect to see this device at CES in January.
Nokia Lumia 1520 launching in the UK next week?
The first Windows Phone phablet, the Nokia Lumia 1520, could launch in the UK this month, less than two weeks after its announcement. According to Carphone Warehouse’s Coming Soon page, the UK retailer will launch the Full HD Lumia 1520 by the end of October and if accurate, this could be the first time Nokia has bought a handset to market within a fortnight of announcing it.
The Lumia 1520 is the first Windows Phone device to feature a 6 inch screen, Full HD resolution and a superfast quad-core processor. The 6 inch 1080p display offers 367 pixels per inch and the 2.2GHz quad-core processor is accompanied by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset and Adreno 330 GPU. The Lumia 1520 comes with Nokia’s imaging prowess as the 20MP camera offers ZEISS Optics, PureView oversampling technology, Optical Image Stabilisation and a dual-LED flash. Nokia Lumia 2520 Photo Gallery
Nokia’s device division might be acquired by Microsoft soon, but that hasn’t stopped the company from bringing back its mobility vision in computers back into its portfolio. We saw the yesteryear Booklet 3G, which was one of the very few notebooks that could use a SIM and now we see a similar vision in the LTE enabled Lumia 2520, one of the first tablets to launch without a WiFi-only variant. It’s a bold step by Nokia, wanting to fill the void created by WiFi only tablets that are seemingly used only at home. Launching it with a beautiful power keyboard as an accessory for some extra bucks, the tablet envisions portable productivity with standard Nokia influences in hardware showing off. We took the Lumia 2520 for a spin in front of our camera, so here is a photo gallery, for your viewing pleasure.
Nokia Story Teller, Beamer, Nokia Camera and more coming with Lumia Black Firmware update
The Nokia Lumia 1520 and the Nokia Lumia 1320 are the two new Lumia smartphones that have launched today at the Nokia World event in Abu Dhabi. Hardware differentiators like a massive screen and unibody build aside, Nokia has also announced that its own “Lumia Black” firmware will be running on top of the Windows Phone GDR3 update that started rolling out recently. This is the successor to the Amber update that is currently available for all Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices and it brings all sorts of new app experiences and improvements to the new devices launched today and eventually to other phones too. The new apps shown off today, as a part of this update are – Nokia Story Teller, Nokia Beamer and Nokia camera amongst others.
Nokia Protective Cover CP-623 announced for Lumia 1520
Alongside the Lumia 1520, Nokia also showed off a new protective cover accessory for the giant sized handset. The flip cover style accessory will double up as a stand. The protective cover is similar to the smart cover seen on the iPad and similar accessories have been seen for the BlackBerry Z10 as well. Nokia announces RAW support for the Lumia 1020 and the Lumia 1520
This is a biggie. Just fresh off all the device announcements, Nokia have announced RAW support for its premiere photography products – the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the just launched Nokia Lumia 1520. Both the devices will be getting support for capturing a pure RAW image in the DNG format that can simultaneously be taken along with a JPEG, just like before, yet the full resolution too was in JPEG. This is actually excellent news for photographers who want COMPLETE control over the images they take. For example, any one who is serious about Pro photography will always have a RAW sample of their photos. Think of it like a negative that you can process anytime in Lightroom and Photoshop and produce an image, or many images out of it. Providing this functionality on a mobile phone is something amazing, and really sees the potential of the Lumia 1020 and the 1520’s cameras.

Nokia Lumia 1320 render leaks ahead of Nokia World
While there’s just a few hours left for Nokia World to kick off, we’ve got our first glimpse of the Nokia Lumia 1320. This device will be a lower end companion to the Lumia 1520. The device will still have a large display but is expected to drop the resolution to 720p. The handset runs the latest release of Windows Phone 8 ie GDR3 and supports the three column layout from GDR3 which reaffirms that this is a restriction based on screen size and not resolution. Nokia have reportedly sold at least 8 million Lumias last quarter, claims WSJ
In a run up to the Nokia World event set to happen on the 22nd of this month, the Wall Street Journal has published a piece on Nokia, Elop and its future. The report also serves us new information that Nokia have reportedly sold at least 8 million Lumias last quarter, spanning from July to September, which is a more than double of what they had sold the same quarter, last year. This information, credited to “people familiar with the matter” is nothing surprising considering the fact that Nokia had sold 7.4 million Lumias the quarter before, with the momentum of the low cost Lumia 520 and other cheaper devices gaining marketshare all around the world. Major growth markets like India have seen a remarkably fast uptake of the Lumia 520, which is possibly the most VFM phone available, and this has naturally applied to other markets as well.

Nokia Lumia 1020: Reinventing Zoom
Much has been written and said about Nokia’s PureView technology but at the core, it all comes down to the amalgam of optics and software algorithms to create a compelling solution. We saw this first on the Nokia 808 PureView and this has been further tuned and improved on the newly launched Nokia Lumia 1020. In its quest for perfection, there have been a few questionable and some very welcome tweaks to the winning formula of the Nokia 808. Over the past few days we got to test out the photography capabilities of the device and get our queries answered by Marc Olsson, Product Manager at Nokia. Here’s our attempt to demystify the camera technology on the Nokia Lumia 1020 for you. Continue reading “Nokia Lumia 1020: Reinventing Zoom”

Nokia Smartwatch Leaked?
Two pictures of a purported Nokia Smartwatch have leaked onto the internet. Could this be announced at the Nokia World event on the 22nd of October, or is it just some long forgotten prototype? We all know that the wearable gadget revolution is here. Google brought its Glass into the limelight with a firm vision(pun intended) on the future, Pebble made its Smartwatch, followed by Samsung with its Galaxy Gear and Sony with its second version of its pioneering Smartwatch. With the leak, it looks like even Nokia, which is all ready to get acquired by Microsoft, has or had its own plans for a wearable gadget.
