Google, following the trend it follows every year, has set the I/O conference at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California this year too. The event will kickstart on May 7th and go through until the 9th. LG, KAIST teamup for development of 6G mobile communication technology

While the development of 5G is still underway, South Korean giant LG has taken early steps to secure core technologies for 6G mobile communication. The company teamed up with KAIST which is state science school. LG has opened a 6G research lab at the state-run Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST) in the central city of Daejeon. Samsung Electronics to replace plastic packaging with sustainable materials

Samsung Electronics has announced that the company would soon start taking steps to replace plastic packaging materials with paper and other environmentally sustainable elements. From the first half of 2019, the packaging used currently for Samsung’s products and accessories – ranging from mobile phones and tablets to home appliances – will be substituted with environmentally sustainable materials like recycled/bio-based plastics and paper. Apple dismisses over 200 employees from its Project Titan autonomous vehicle group

Apple has laid off 200 employees earlier this week from Project Titan, which is its autonomous vehicle group. Microsoft Office 365 now available via the Apple Mac App Store

Apple has announced that Microsoft Office 365 for the first time is available on the Mac App Store, thus making it easier for Mac users to download Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and the whole suite of Microsoft’s popular apps. This update brings quite a few changes and feature, it also includes a new setup screen that’s used when configuring AirPods and this is currently hidden. This new setup screen clearly states that the user will be able to talk to Siri with AirPods or iPhone by saying “Hey, Siri”. Facebook is shutting down Moments app on February 25th

Facebook has confirmed that it is shutting down Moments; its standalone private photo sharing app. The app’s services will be discontinued on Feb. 25th. Apple hires Samsung’s battery executive Soonho Ahn to lead its work

Apple has hired Soonho Ahn executive from Samsung SDI Co., which is the battery making affiliate of Samsung Electronics Co. This move will help Apple lead its own battery department. Soonho Ahn joined Apple in December as global head of battery developments, after working as a senior vice president at Samsung SDI since 2015, according to his LinkedIn profile.
