Nokia seeks legal action against Amazon and HP for patent infringement

Nokia has filed lawsuits against Amazon for using their video-related technology in Amazon’s streaming services and devices. Similar actions have also been initiated against HP in the U.S. for the unauthorized use of Nokia’s patented video-related technology.

InterDigital files patent infringement cases against Xiaomi over cellular and H.265 technologies

InterDigital, an Indian mobile and video technology research and development company, today announced that they are taking action against Xiaomi for infringing on patents involving cellular and H.265/HEVC Indian patents. InterDigital has stated that they are willing to settle the issue with Xiaomi under the terms of a FRAND license.

Caltech wins patent infringement lawsuit as Apple and Broadcom ordered to pay $1.1 Billion

Apple wins patent infringement appeal against University of Wisconsin

Back in 2014 University of Wisconsin’s Alumni Research Foundation, or WARF has filed patent infringement lawsuit against Apple claiming that Apple’s A series chipset on iPhone 5s, 6 and 6 Plus smartphones infringed a 1998 patent for boosting the efficiency of integrated circuits. Apple was later ordered to pay damages of around $234 million.

Apple hit with patent infringement lawsuit over iMessage and FaceTime encryption tech

Finnish holdings firm MPH Technologies has filed a fresh lawsuit on Apple in federal court accusing the company of patent-infringing with products including iMessage and FaceTime. MPH Technologies attempted to license its IP to Apple in 2016.  The lawsuit is being filed with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.

Apple hit with $145 million fine over WiLan patent infringement

Apple is fined $145 million by the jury in San Diego over infringing two WiLan patents relating to wireless communications technology, WiLan, a unit of Quarterhill Inc. Apple, on the other hand, confirmed that it plans to appeal. The company earlier rejected claims of infringement in pre-trial filings.

PUBG developer sues Epic Games’ Fortnite over copyright infringement in Korea

Korean game developer PUBG Corporation, which is also a subsidiary of Bluehole has announced that it is suing US-based Epic Games’ ‘Fortnite’ over copyright infringement in Korea. It also asked the court to determine whether Fortnite copied from the former’s “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.” It filed an injunction with the Seoul Central District Court against Epic Games Korea.

Samsung sued over biometric patent infringement

Samsung flagships pack fingerprint sensors, iris scanners, and facial recognition tech which are more number of biometric authentications than most flagships out there. However, the company is now being sued by a US-based “data security firm,” PACid Technologies, for infringing on two US patents and one Korean patent with its biometric features.

BlackBerry sues Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram over patent infringement

BlackBerry today announced that it is suing Facebook, and its subsidiaries; Instagram and WhatsApp under the ground that these apps copied features like unread count from BlackBerry’s proprietary and patent-protected Messenger app, known as BBM.
