Micromax A116 Canvas HD Benchmarks

Micromax unveiled the A116 Canvas HD back in January, started selling the device through online retailer Snapdeal starting from February 14th. It has 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD IPS display. It is powered by a quad-core MediaTek MT6589 Cortex A7 CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz with PowerVR SGX544 GPU. This was the first phone to launch in India with the quad-core MediaTek processor. We reviewed the device last month, but we didn’t share complete benchmarks of the device back then. Here are the benchmark comparison with the other mid-range Android smartphones in the market .

HTC One UltraPixel camera samples and full HD video sample

The HTC One that we recently unboxed was really hyped up by HTC for one special feature, the camera. Bucking the trend, HTC went for a different approach by not counting on the megapixels. With just a 4 MP sensor, touting the pixels as an “Ultrapixel”, HTC sought out better image quality coupled with Optical Image Stabilization for better low light performance instead of the never ending megapixel race. Not only that, they also have a new video and still image experience in terms of software with HTC Zoe, capturing all the important memories in a sequential manner, without having to worry about missing a moment. HTC Radar Windows Phone 7.8 update finally rolling out in India

HTC Radar Windows Phone 7.8 update India

HTC has finally started rolling out Windows Phone 7.8 update (v7.10.8862.144) for the HTC Radar in India. It started rolling out back in January in some countries. Nokia started rolling out the Windows Phone 7.8 update for their WP 7.5 devices back in January. The HTC Radar was launched in India in October 2011, and got a price cut in August. This update brings several new features including resizable live tiles, bing lockscreen wallpaper, 20 color accents and lots more. This doesn’t have the Bluetooth file transfer feature that was available in Nokia Lumia devices.

Zinio to launch on Windows Phone as a Lumia exclusive

Zinio, the popular magazine reading application, has announced its intentions to launch on the Windows Phone 8 platform. The company declared that the application will be made available exclusively to Nokia’s Lumia range of Windows Phone handsets at launch.

Samsung Galaxy S4 mini confirmed, launching in June?


Samsung Galaxy S4 mini images leaked last week along with specifications. The device has been confirmed in an in-depth article on Samsung by Bloomberg Businessweek, which reveals that the device would launch soon after the launch of Galaxy S4 in April. Nokia Lumia 520 up for pre-order on Flipkart for Rs. 10,499

Nokia launched the Lumia 520 in India last week. Online retailer Flipkart has put up the device for pre-order at a price tag of Rs. 10,499.  It wasunveiled at the Mobile World Congress in 2013 in Barcelona last month, and appeared on the Nokia India Shop online portal earlier this month, which still says ‘coming soon’ without any price tag. It has a 4-inch (800 x 480 pixels) display with 2D hardened glass, and is super sensitive touch for finger nail and glove use. Asus Padfone Infinity gets priced in Taiwan, available in April

Asus announced the Padfone Infinity last month at the MWC 2013. It was launched in Taiwan earlier this week as we told you, and all the four major carriers have started taking pre-orders for the device in Taiwan. The Padfone Infinity packs a 5-inch Full HD (1920×1080 pixels) IPS display and the Padfone station has a 10.1-inch (1920×1080 pixels) display. It is powered by 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor with Adreno 320 GPU and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Mike Laziridis, co-founder of Research in Motion, to leave Blackberry on 1st May

After Blackberry’s earnings release, Mike Laziridis announced that he plans to leave the company on 1st May. He stepped down as co-CEO last year and has been holding the position of Vice Chair of the Board.

D Shivkumar, Nokia India and MEA MD, resigns

D Shivakumar, MD at Nokia India, has quit the Finnish smartphone manufacturer after an 8 year stint that began in 2006. Based out of Dubai, Shivakumar over saw operations in 90 countries including Africa, West Asia and India. Shivakumar has no intentions of being associated with mobility, telecom and FMCG once he returns to India in June.

We brought you the Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos photo gallery and the benchmarks recently. Here we have the complete review of the device. The Galaxy Grand has a similar design with curved corners and chrome finish all around, but it lacks the wedge shape and curved glass like the Galaxy S3. Wireless charging: The future or a passing fad?

Wireless charging, much like many other technologies that find their ways into the hands of the everyday consumer has a long and unspectacular past. First attempted, at least in the public sphere, in the early 1900’s by one Nikolas Tesla, whose many brilliant ideas and even more spectacular failures (this being one of them) coloured a rather interesting period in innovation and developments for consumer-facing products. The idea was revived in the mid-2000’s by a number of independent individuals working out of MIT, Jeff Lieberman and Marin Soljacic and team. Wireless power transmission is a bit of a misnomer as wires are almost certainly involved in nearly every step of the way with the sole exception being the wire usually linking the power supply to the “sink” which is the device using the power in the first place.

Xolo has officially launched the B700, the company’s new Android smartphone with a 3450 mAh battery which offers 363 hours of standby 20 hours of talk time on 3G,  up to 38 hours Music Playback via internal speakers and up to 86 hours via wired headset. Xolo promises 9 hours of video playback while using internal speakers and up to 10.5 hours while using a wired headset. The Xolo B700 went on sale online last week.

Evernote for Windows Phone the Windows Phone app to version 3.0 that brings several new features including a new redesigned homescreen, shorctcuts, improved tag lists, premium document search feature and lots more. The Evernote app for Android got these features in a new update earlier this week. The new Notebook Stacks feature is a new way to visually group similar notebooks.
