Google Nexus 7 gets a price cut, 16GB WiFi only version now available for Rs. 9,999
Google Nexus 7 was launched in India quite late and went for sale at Rs. 15,999 for the 16GB WiFi version. Around a couple of months back, Google announced their second version of Nexus 7 as the Google Nexus 7 2013 with an upgraded processor and a much better display. Earlier in July, just after the announcement of new Nexus 7, Amazon had slashed the price of Nexus 7 to Rs. 11,999 for the 16GB version.Now, Amazon and Flipkart, two popular giants of India’s eCommerce market slashed the price of original Nexus 7 to just Rs. 9,999 for the 16GB version.
Gionee Elife E5 Review
Gionee, popular Chinese mobile device design company entered into the Indian market back in March with the Dream D1. Now the company has launched several Android smartphones. Beats buys back $265 million of shares and bids good bye to HTC
HTC has been struggling in the smartphone market despite some encouraging HTC One sales. HTC held a 25 percent stake in the popular audio company Beats and that is one of the reasons most of the HTC handsets came with Beats audio. HTC had purchased 50.1 percent of Beats’ shares in 2011 for $300 million. Last year, the music company Beats got back half of that for $150 million and now they have totally got rid of HTC by buying their entire shares back for $265 million.

Skitch 3.0 for iPhone and iPad brings Quick Shot mode, Send to Meeting, AirDrop and more
Evernote has also updated the Skitch app for iPhone and iPad along with the Evernote app. The new Skitch app version 3.0 brings support for iOS 7 and a lot of new features including a Quick Shot mode that lets you mark up photos easily since the app opens up the camera mode. HTC One mini launching in India soon
HTC announced the One mini, a smaller variant of the HTC One back in July. Now the phone has appeared on the official HTC India website, which indicates that the launch could be expected soon. It packs a 4.3-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD display, powered by a 1.4 GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor and runs on Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5. Champion Technologies has partnered with BSNL to launch the Champion, Trendy 531. It has a 5.3-inch display, powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It comes with dual SIM support with dual standby and 3G connectivity. The display resolution is not mentioned. Microsoft to merge Windows Phone and Windows 8 app stores
At a company meeting today, Microsoft evidently let out news that the Windows Phone Store and Windows Store will be merged into a single app store. Terry Myserson who heads the operating systems group confirmed the news at an internal meeting. First reported by The Verge and confirmed by our own sources, Myserson confirmed that the changes will appear over the next few releases of Windows and Windows Phone. The next major update for Windows is expected later this year called Windows 8.1. A similar update for Windows Phone called Windows Phone 8.1 will follow it.

Google Search for iOS gets push notifications for reminders
Google today announced a slew of improvements in its mobile search application to celebrate 15 years of Google Search. The improvements include an update to the iOS app that will bring reminder notifications amongst other features. Some of these features are already available on the Android app. The update will also help enable a seamless search experience across multiple devices and platforms. The search app will now sync across mobile devices and platforms and so a reminder set on one device will reflect on others as well. Users will need to be logged in to their Google account for this.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 European version is region locked
The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is making its way into about 149 countries around the world starting 25th, which is just two days back but we already have reports of the European version of the device being region locked to the continent, making it impossible for travelers to use it with a local SIM when abroad. This comes via our friends at Clove UK who have stated this fact on their blog. The LTE version, going by the model name SM-N9005 will be region locked to Europe and will not be able to access other International networks when abroad. This is really weird, especially for unlocked units.

Apple Care+ now covers International Travelers, India included in the list of supported countries
A recent change to the Apple Care+ plan now enables service coverage even when traveling abroad. Just after the announcement of the iPhone 5s and the 5c Apple had raised the Care+ coverage for accidental damage from $49 to $79 and with that news, along comes the info that travelers traveling abroad would be able to avail this service for a phone in any country where Service is possible. And surprise, that list includes India. Currently, the Apple Care+ plan is non-existent here and previously, Apple Care+ used to work only in the home country, so for people buying phones abroad from India, this is good news.
