Yesterday, there were reports stating that HTC will announce its upcoming flagship device the One W8 on August 20th and launch it on August 21st. However, today HTC has sent out press invites for an event on August 19th. It is anticipated that the company will announce a Windows Phone based on the HTC One (M8) design.

LTE version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note glimpsed in spy shots
We have spoken about a 4G LTE variant of the Xiaomi Redmi Note that was believed to be in the works previously, but today was the first time that we got to have a look at the very device. Ditching the octa-core MediaTek processor for a better-compatible, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 MSM8928, the 4G LTE version of the Redmi Note looks more or less identical to the initial version. The Redmi (Hongmi) got similar treatment from Xiaomi when it was updated to a Snapdragon 400 SoC from the MT6582 earlier this year.

Motorola Moto G gets a Rs 2000 price cut for a limited time
Motorola’s Moto G, the most successful Moto phone in India just turned into an even better deal.
Flipkart, Motorola’s exclusive sales partner for India, just announced that the Moto G will now be available for a starting price of 10,499 INR for the 8GB variant. On the other hand, the 16GB variant will cost 11,999 INR, getting an equal price cut. However, there’s a catch; the discounted price will apply only to limited stocks of the device, which means it probably won’t stay long!

Xiaomi responds to privacy concerns: “MIUI does not secretly upload photos & messages”
Thanks to whistle-blowers like Edward Snowden, privacy has become a public topic of discussion these days, which is always a good thing. On that note, earlier today, an article from ocworkbench claimed that Xiaomi’s Redmi Note smartphone is uploading data to Chinese servers, without explicit user permission. Considering Xiaomi is from China, a country which has been accused of spying on civilians in the past, the issue made its way to mainstream internet thanks to the virality of social media. But it was just one part of a story. We had reached out to Xiaomi to understand what the other side of the story is like, and they finally have an answer. Hugo Barra, the company’s public face for its International operations, has taken to social networks, to explain how the company is, in fact, not invading user privacy.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha could be announced on August 4th

Samsung plans to announce the Galaxy Alpha on August 4th, according to Sammobile. Unlike the Galaxy S series or the Galaxy Note series, the Galaxy Alpha would have aluminium build on the sides, but it would come with mid-range specifications, according to earlier reports. Live images of the smartphone showed up online last week, confirming the Galaxy Alpha name and Android KitKat OS.

Samsung patents Gear S name and new smartwatch designs with round faces

Recently Samsung applied for Gear S patent at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) . This is likely to be a wearable device since it has Gear in its name, so it could be a smartwatch. Yesterday, Samsung applied for new smartwatch design patents at USPTO. All these have rounded or circular faces, unlike square faces present in its current Gear smartwatches.

Xiaomi Mi 10400mAh Power Bank Unboxing

HERE Maps for Windows 8.1 get major update, now available globally
HERE Maps on Windows 8.1 has just received a bunch of new and important features. For starters HERE Maps get manual positioning which adds the ability to manually set your position even thought the app detects your location automatically. Users will simply have to tap on the green dot on the map or in its setting panel to indicate their position.

Record 295.3 million smartphones shipped in Q2 2014: IDC

Worldwide smartphone market grew 23.1% year-over-year in the Q2 2014, with record shipments of 295.3 million units in a single quarter in Q2 2014, up 2.6% compared to last quarter, according to a report by Research Firm IDC (International Data Corporation). The main reason for increase in shipments is rapid growth of low-end smartphones and decrease in shipments of feature phones.
