It also support instant messaging networks such as MSN,Google Talk.I have tried Fring and it seems impressive.The initial version used to kill my battery but the latest version seems to have solved the problem.

Loopt is a mobile social mapping application that works only in the USA as of now. It display the location of users on a mp using GPS and other data.Users can interact with each other, exchange info etc.

Shozu

Shozu is a great mobile photo and multimedia application.I personally use it to upload photos from my phone to my flickr account. We had already covered Shozu as a part of the Killer Mobile Apps

10 Reasons why the Apple iPhone wont hit India

Apple iPhone is creating waves across the globe and the Time magazine has named the iphone as the invention of the year of 2007

No doubt that iPhone is a great device , Its a revolutionary phone – much more than a phone

But the sad part is that the iPhone has not come to India so far. Its available in the Grey markets for under Rs.30,000 but without warranty. Anyone buying it / already bought it ? I wanted to highlight why the iPhone wont be coming soon to India.

Users dont spend much on Value Added Services

I was just comparing the various mobile markets in the world where the iPhone has been introduced – USA, UK,Germany and France. These markets are places where purchasing power is more. In this context Im referring to the amount of cash the users burn on their mobile phones and related services such as ringtones,songs etc. We Indians spend a lot on phones for sure but mainly for calls and messages nothing more. New Li-Ion Battery might keep your phone’s charge for days

One of the researchers at Stanford University might makes our lives easier . They have found a way to use silicon nanowires to significantly boost the power of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries which are commonly used in mobile phones.

The latest innovation is as a result of the battery developed through research led by Yi Cui, assistant professor of materials science and engineering, produces 10 times the amount of electricity of existing lithium-ion, known as Li-ion, batteries.

MoDemo – a report

Modemo was a single day event held at Bangalore . You can see the announcement.
The event was held at the Airport Road office of ThoughtWorks International.
The folks behind MoMo Bangalore have put together this event.

About 20 Demos were presented.
The coolest part was meeting people who are doing / tracking mobile stuff.
The crowd comprised of a gentle mix of people from startups, hobbyists, product brands and the likes.

The event went on from 9am in the morning to about 6:15pm in the evening.
Rajan from MomoBangalore made the welcome speech and mentioned that the idea of a MoDeMo is inspired by a

Dailymobile.se just posted some live pictures of the Sony Ericsson W960i which might come any time to India. The phone is a Nokia N95 and Apple Iphone competitor with touchscreen , wifi and the likes.

Vodafone is currently in expansion mode in India. According to a Wall Street Journal report

Vodafone is planning Joint Venture to speed Indian Expansion.

Theres a lot of rivalry between telecom operators in India but when it comes to cutting costs they seem to be joining hands. Setting up towers is a very costly deal for the tel cos.

Verizon Wireless – Use any app and any device from 2008

Some good news for Verizon wireless users. You might no longer need to stick to the devices offered by Verizon.

Come 2008 , you might be able to use Any App Any Device according to a company press release.

This is a seen as move to tackle the Android – gphone launch and also Apple’s 3G iPhone plans.

But wait there’s a catch. These devices need to be tested and approved in a 20 million facility.

Any device that meets the minimum technical standard will be activated on the network.

More information is expected in early 2008.

Interesting note : Verizon is not part of the Google open handset alliance

Some good news for Nokia E61i , Nokia N81 and Nokia N95 8GB users . Nokia has released the latest firmwares for thes phone which are available for download via Nokia software update.

I have to try upgrading my Nokia E61i to the latest firmware this weekend.
