Apple reportedly acquires social recommendation search app SpotSetter

In a bid to boost its mapping service, Apple has scooped up social search engine app SpotSetter, according to Techcrunch. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed by the company. Founded in 2011, SpotSetter provides personalized recommendations for places to go such as restaurants, stores and entertainment venues.

Dropbox acquires IM platform Droptalk

Dropbox has scooped up instant messaging startup Droptalk for an undisclosed sum. The startup enables users to send links privately via Chrome extensions along with and chats. Twitter scoops up native ad platform Namo Media

In a bid to expand its reach in mobile advertising, Twitter has acquired native ad firm Namo Media. The actual deal amount is not disclosed by the either of the company but Tech Crunch touts that it is around $50 million. Simplocker Android malware encrypts file and demands ransom

A new Android malware is affecting Android phone users in Ukraine by locking their mobile data. Called as Simplocker, the malware scans the device’s SD card or internal storage, encrypting any data files it finds there with a range of extensions, including obvious ones such as .jpg, .doc, .avi, and mp4. It then demands a ransom from them to recover their files.

LinkedIn adds profile redesign for Premium users

LinkedIn is following footsteps of Facebook and Twitter by giving its user profile a makeover. Now, premium account users on LinkedIn can add background images to their profile pages which is similar to Facebook’s and Twitter’s cover photo feature. Users can either upload their own image, or select from a gallery of header images provided by LinkedIn.

Google Glass adds ‘Notification glance’ in the latest update

Android KitKat activation hits 13.6%, Jelly Bean down to 58.4%

It’s that time of the month when Google releases its monthly Android distribution numbers.  KitKat’s share is consistently increasing for the past two months and now, Google’s latest version of Android is present on 13.6% . This is up from 8.5% in May and 5.3% in April.

Temple Run surpass 1 billion downloads

Temple Run has touched a new milestone by clocking over 1 billion downloads across all platforms since its inception in 2011.
