Intel and Samsung file amicus brief to support FTC lawsuit against Qualcomm

Earlier in January this year US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a lawsuit against Qualcomm for anti-competitive practices. Now, Intel and Samsung have filed amicus briefs with the court supporting the FTC’s lawsuit and opposing Qualcomm’s request to dismiss the case. Both the companies claim that Qualcomm uses its dominant position in the mobile processor industry to keep other players out. Apple reportedly acquires AI firm Lattice Data for $200 million

Apple has been focused on AI for sometime and it looks like it is bolstering its efforts further. According to a new report from TechCrunch, Apple has acquired  Lattice Data, a company that specializes in artificial intelligence. The deal which was closed a couple of weeks ago is slated at $200 million. The report also said that about 20 engineers have joined the larger company.

Worldwide smartwatch shipments increased 25% YoY, fitness bands stall in Q1 2017

Worldwide shipments fell 7% year on year to just over 9 million in the first quarter of 2017, according to the latest report from Canalys. Meanwhile smartwatch shipments hit 6 million, up 25% YoY . The report revealed that smartwatch now accounts for around 40% of the wearable band market.
