Vodafone launched its 4G LTE services in Tamil Nadu back in December last year starting from Coimbatore and Tiruppur. 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) has officially announced that 5G would become the official name of the next generation of mobile wireless standard succeeding 4G technologies like LTE and LTE-Advanced. It also introduced a new 5G logo with new wave pattern that will be used on 3GPP 5G specifications from Release 15 onwards. Telstra, Ericsson, Qualcomm and NETGEAR has introduced the world’s first commercial Gigabit LTE network and device. Australian operator Telstra confirmed at the Gigabit LTE Experience event in Sydney that their Gigabit LTE service has launched in select state capital city CBDs, with more to follow. This was demoed in Nighthawk M1 Mobile Router (MR1100). Telstra was the first globally to launch 600Mbps download speeds back in September 2015. Few months back there was a report that said Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular were gearing up to launch VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) services to take on Reliance Jio who launched pan-India 4G LTE services with VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) back in September last year. A week after after announcing that it has started mass production of 5-inch class Quad HD In-cell touch LTPS display, JDI is in the news again by announcing that it is developing FULL ACTIVE FLEX 5.5-inch Full-HD LCD display for smartphones. Japan Display Inc. (JDI) has announced that it has begun mass production start of 5-inch class (Starting from 5-inch) low temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) LCD module with WQHD (1440×2560 pixels) resolution and over 500 PPI pixel density. JDI said that it has reduced LCD panel power consumption in the WQHD screen by using improved materials to reduce LCD driving frequency from 60Hz to 30Hz depending on the display image signal without affecting the image quality, thus achieving low power. Airtel has launched 4G LTE services in Assam starting with Dibrugarh & Tinsukia. 4G will be offered using 2300 MHz (TD LTE) band and is available through mobile phones, 4G hotspots and dongles in these towns. Vodafone has started offering 4G-ready SIM cards to its existing customers in Tamil Nadu (including Chennai) through Vodafone stores, Vodafone Mini Stores and close to 10,000 multi brand outlets, ahead of 4G roll out in the circle. Initially the 4G services will be launched in select towns of Tamil Nadu, said the company. It will be based on 2100 MHz band 1, making the company first in the country to use the band that it had acquired recently.
