DoT requests TRAI to speed 5G spectrum pricing for quicker rollout in India

India’s Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has sent a letter to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to speed up the pricing of 5G spectrum, for which the auctions are expected to be held soon. The letter relays the wishes of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to have 5G networks deployed in India by August 15th, 2022.

Vi demos 5G VoNR in 5G trials in Gujarat with Nokia

Vodafone Idea Limited (Vi) has announced that it has successfully demonstrated 5G Voice over New Radio (VoNR) with its technology partner, Nokia, during the ongoing 5G Trials in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. Once deployed, the VoNR solution will enable Vi to offer its subscribers high-definition voice experience over 5G, as well as several advanced voice applications and use cases in the future, said the company. India 5G spectrum auction in 2022, roll out within 2022-23; PLI scheme for 5G equipment manufacturing soon

After several delays, Indian government at the budget 2022-23 announced that 5G spectrum auctions will be conducted in 2022 and the 5G services will be rolled out by by private telecom providers within 2022- 23. Reliance Jio already announced that it is ready for deployment after the spectrum auction. Airtel and Vodafone Idea have also been conducting trials. Vi, Nokia achieve over 100Mbps speed beyond 17km in rural 5G trial

Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL), in partnership with Nokia, announced that it has successfully conducted 5G trial in rural area in Gandhinagar in Gujarat using 3.5GHz spectrum band allocated by the Government for 5G trials.
