During the inauguration of the new International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Area office & Innovation Centre in India at a programme in Vigyan Bhawan yesterday, the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi also unveiled the Bharat 6G Vision Document and launched the 6G R&D Test Bed.

Call before u Dig app

He also launched the ‘Call before u Dig’ App. With this new app, the coordination between the digging agencies and the departments that have underground assets will increase. Due to this, the loss will also be reduced, and the problems faced by the people will also be reduced.

6G Test Bed

The PM also unveiled the 6G Test Bed and the vision document related to this technology, and said this will not only usher new energy in digital India but also provide solutions and innovations for the Global South.

The Prime Minister underlined that it will create new opportunities for India’s innovators, industries and startups. He also noted that this initiative will strengthen cooperation and collaboration in the IT sector of South Asian countries.

100 new 5G labs

He said that with the help of the power of 5G, India is working with many countries to change the work-culture of the whole world. “In the coming time, India is going to set up 100 new 5G labs. This will go a long way in realizing the opportunities, business models and employment potential associated with 5G,” he added.

The 6G vision document has a tablet that shows an indicative list of Digital India 2030 Mobile and Broadband Policy objectives, along with tentative spectrum bands to be made available.

Bharat 6G Mission

India’s 6G mission is divided into two phases: Phase 1 from 2023-2025 (2 years) and Phase 2 from 2025-2030 (5 years). In Phase 1, support will be provided to explorative ideas, risky pathways, and proof-of-concept tests.

Further, ideas and concepts that show promise and potential for acceptance by the global peer community will be adequately supported to develop them to completion, establish their use cases and benefits, and create implementational IPs and testbeds leading to commercialization as part of
Phase 2.

The 6G vision document said that the Bharat 6G Mission is fully aligned with the national Vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, and it seeks to empower every Indian to become Atmanirbhar (selfreliant) in their lives.

At the same time, it ensures that India takes its rightful place in the world as a leading supplier of advanced telecom technologies and solutions that are affordable and contribute to the global good.

At the event, regarding 5G roll out and 5G, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, said:

Today’s India is rapidly moving towards the next step of the digital revolution. India is the country with the fastest 5G rollout in the world as 5G services have been rolled out in more than 125 cities in just 120 days and 5G services have reached approximately 350 districts in the country. India is discussing 6G just after 6 months after the 5G rollout. The vision document presented today will become a major basis for the 6G rollout in the next few years.

Noting that India’s 5G standards are part of the global 5G systems, India will also work closely with ITU for the standardization of future technologies. The new Indian ITU Area office will also help in creating the right environment for 6G.
