Facebook has updated the Facebook application for Android with support for Facebook Home cover feed for select devices. The Facebook Home app that was released back in April is no longer needed. The latest update also adds option to save photos to your phone from the photo viewer. After the new update the status bar now shows at the top of your lock screen by default. Smart Namo Phablet with 6.5-inch 1080p display, 1.5 GHz quad-core processor coming soon

Earlier this week Smart Namo, Android smartphone named after Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Narendra Modi was announced. These devices are expected to come in 5-inch display, 1.5 GHz quad-core MediaTek 6589T processor and Android 4.2. These would come in four variants – 1GB RAM and 16GB ROM, 2GB RAM and 16/32/64GB ROM. Now the Smart Namo Facebook page has posted specifications and images of the upcoming 6.5-inch phablet. It would come with a 6.5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) display, powered by 1.5 GHz quad-core MediaTek 6589T processor and run on Android 4.2.1 (Jelly Bean). It would have a 13-megapixel auto focus rear camera with LED Flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It would be  9.5mm thick and pack a 3150mAh battery. ZTE ships 11.5 million smartphones in Q2 2013, at 5% of the total smartphone marketshare

Amongst a number of highly competitive Chinese smartphone makers is ZTE. This company was recently revealed as one of the Top 5 Smartphone makers in the world, by IDC, pegging it at the fifth position. However, contrary to IDC’s claims, ZTE has posted its Q2 results with a total of 11.5 million(up from 10.1 in the report) shipments, pegging the company at an even more impressive fourth position. With this number, the company now owns a healthy 5% of the total smartphone marketshare. Several Android OEMs are finally starting to make substantial inroads into the market, is the Apple-Samsung duopoly fading fast?

HTC One Dual SIM spotted on HTC India website

HTC launched the HTC One, their flagship smartphone in India back in April. Now the HTC One Dual SIM has appeared on the official HTC India website. Other than the Dual SIM support, other specifications would be similar including a 4.7 inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD display,  1.7 GHz quad-core processor,  Android Jelly Bean with Sense 5, UltraPixel camera with LED Flash and a 2.1MP HD front-facing camera. Samsung boasts the world’s first TDD-FDD LTE seamless handover technology with new Galaxy S4 and S4 mini devices

Samsung has just announced that it has the world’s first commercially available devices(new Galaxy S4s and S4 minis) that can seamlessly do handover between two different LTE networks(based on TDD and FDD). This news comes at a time when most companies and their multimode LTE chipsets are gearing up for LTE Advanced support. Qualcomm had announced last year that they will bringing a truly global LTE chipset with support for both TDD and FDD LTE variants, with the MDM9x25 series of modems, but Samsung seems to have one-upped them, not for a dual mode TDD-FDD LTE chipset, but for this “seamless handover” technology.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 event reportedly scheduled for September 4th


Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the third Galaxy Note phablet in the series is the most expected device after the Galaxy S4. Back in March there were reports that the Galaxy Note 3 would launch at IFA next month since all the other Galaxy Note devices were unveiled at IFA. A Korean website, Daum reports that the Galaxy Note 3 would be unveiled in a event on September 4th in Germany, couple of days before the IFA starts. Android Jelly Bean continues to rise to top with 40% share

Google just released this month’s breakdown of Android version’s accessing their Play Store. According to the reports, Android Jelly Bean 4.1 + is on the rise and now has a market share of 40.5% which is a 2.6% increase from last month’s 37.9%. With the launch of latest version of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, the share of Jelly Bean is expected to increase further.

BlackBerry Messenger for Android shows up online in leaked images

BlackBerry had announced it’s intentions to introduce its wildly popular messenger service to the Android and iOS platforms earlier this year. We’ve been hearing rumors of a late summer release and if our sources are to be trusted, the application will see a release in the coming weeks on both the platforms.
