The 5G smartphone has grown significantly since they first began appearing in the market 2 years ago. In the first quarter of 2021, Apple leads the market with 40.4 billion shipments, and Samsung and Vivo recorded the highest QoQ growth at 79% and 62% respectively.

Global smartphone market predicted to ship 1.38 billion units in 2021; highest ever since 2015: IDC

The global smartphone is expected to reach record shipments in 2021, with the IDC predicting shipment numbers of nearly 1.38 billion units for the year, growing 7.7% when compared to 2020. The market’s growth is predicted to continue growing in 2022 at 3.8% YoY. Driving this growth is the increasing pace of adoption of 5G capable smartphones as 5G networks begin to deploy around the world.

Worldwide smartphone market record 345.5 million shipments, 25.5% YoY growth in Q1 2021: IDC

Smartphone vendors shipped nearly 346 million devices during first quarter of 2021, according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker. The strong growth came from all regions with the greatest gains coming from China and Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan and China), said the report. As the two largest regions globally, accounting for half of all global shipments, these regions experienced 30% and 28% year-over-year growth, respectively. India smartphone market records 8% YoY growth in Q3 2020, shipping 50 million units: Canalys

After a sharp decline during Q2 2020, the Indian smartphone market has made a strong recovery in the third quarter of 2020, recording a growth of 8% YoY and shipping about 50 million units according to a report from Canalys. Samsung confirms One UI 2.5 update for Galaxy S10 series, Note 10 series and more

Samsung has begun rolling out their One UI 2.5 update their Galaxy line of smartphones. The update brings many of the features from the Galaxy Note20 series to older Galaxy phones, including improved pro video and audio controls, an updated Samsung Notes app with Audio Bookmarks, Wireless DeX support and more.

Worldwide smartphone shipments fall below 300 million, down 11.7% YoY in Q1 2020 due to COVID-19

Worldwide smartphone shipments decreased 11.7% year over year in Q2 2020, according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker. In total, companies shipped a 275.8 million smartphones during quarter making this is the largest annual (year over year) decline ever and the first time smartphone market has fallen below 300 million units in a quarter since Q2 2014. This is mainly due to COVID-19 pandemic and the peak of the lockdowns in China, which extended to the rest of the world by the end of the quarter.
