LG hit a home run with the G2 which dropped the Optimus branding from its name but in turn received commercial and critical success. Up until then, LG had almost always been in Samsung’s shadow since their Galaxy S lineup of devices especially had been better offerings and even the Optimus Vu lineup that was launched to compete with the Galaxy note lineup was underwhelming. The G2 went head to head with the Galaxy S4 and although the S4 was a great smartphone, the G2 did improve on almost every aspect possible.

Xiaomi just announced Redmi Pro, the company’s latest smartphone in the Redmi series at an event in China. It has a 5.5-inch 1080p OLED 2.5D curved glass display, is powered by a deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 / X25 SoC and runs on MIUI 8 based on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). It has dual rear cameras, a 13-megapixel camera along with a 5-megapixel camera for achieving depth of field and real-time background blur. Gionee has announced M6 and M6 Plus smartphones in China. The Gionee M6 packs in a 5.5-inch 1080p AMOLED display and the M6 Plus packs a 6-inch 1080p AMOLED screen. Both the phones are powered by an Octa-Core MediaTek Helio P10 SoC and run Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) with Amigo OS 3.2 on top. The Gionee M6 has a 13-megapixel rear camera with phase-detection auto-focus (PDAF), LED flash and the M6 Plus has a 16-megapixel rear camera. Both the phones have a 8-megapixel front-facing camera. Opera has updated its Opera Mini app for Android that brings a new built-in video player that lets you download videos video and social media websites with a single click without installing another app or going to another website.
