WhatsApp is finally getting GIF support, as tipped in the latest beta release for iOS.

The Next Web citing @WABetaInfo‘s latest tweet, which keeps track of WhatsApp’s beta updates, reported that the latest iOS beta version 2.16.7.1 of the app has the ability to autoplay GIF links and also embed them directly into your chats.

The GIF support in WhatsApp was long due as the Facebook Messenger, Viber and even the other major competitor chat services have GIF support already. Viber rolled out the GIF support to its apps on Android and iOS yesterday, along with a number of other important features. The updated Viber app to version 6.1 now supports GIF images and lets you backup your chats.

WhatsApp hasn’t announced anything about GIF support officially as yet, but we are expecting the announcement as well as support to reach Android devices soon. The company also has video calling feature planned for rollout, so lets wait for major changes over the coming weeks.
