Last year Opera introduced Sponsored Web Pass that lets operators team up with advertisers to sponsor mobile internet access for a limited time, free of cost. Few months back Opera and Idea Cellular teamed up with Quikr who sponsored for mobile data for Opera customers using Idea connection in India. Now Opera has teamed up with FreeCharge, an e-commerce player who has sponsored free data for Vodafone and Idea subscribers using Opera Mini web browser. LG G Flex 2 launches in the UK March 19, pre-orders open Feb 12

The LG G Flex 2 was announced almost a month ago at CES 2015 and shortly after we heard that it was coming to the UK as a Vodafone exclusive for six weeks. Since then, there’s been very little information about a release date but now it has been revealed the handset will launch in the UK on March 19th with pre-orders opening on February 12th. Vodafone India has announced it has applied to the country’s central bank for a permit to operate a payments bank as the world’s largest network looks to bring basic banking service to its millions of Indian customers. Sunil Sood to replace Marten Pieters as Vodafone India CEO

Vodafone India today announced that Sunil Sood will replace Marten Pieters as the company’s Chief Operating Officer. Current CEO Marten Pieters will step down as Managing Director and Chief Executive of Vodafone India from 1st April 2015, however he will continue to remain on the Board of Vodafone India in a non-executive capacity, said the company. Vodafone 4G now available to 50% of UK population

The slow and steady rollout of Vodafone’s 4G network has progressed with the network now offering 4G coverage to 50% of the UK population. Less than a week after EE revealed it offers 4G to 80% of the population, Vodafone UK CEO Jeroen Hoencamp defended the 4G rollout by saying they were focusing on reliability over speed. With the telecoms market in the UK heading towards quad-play, Vodafone needs the services offered by and has the cash to make a bid for Sky, which is valued at around £15 billion. Vodafone offers free Wi-Fi in Delhi’s Khan Market area for its own and other users

Vodafone has announced that it has started offering free Wi-Fi connectivity in Delhi’s Khan Market area for both Vodafone and Non-Vodafone subscribers. This covers most frequented hotspots like ROUTE 04, SOY, Choko La, Big Chill, Pure Punjab, Chonas, Town Hall and Khan Chacha. Last year Airtel partnered with Google to launch Free Zone to access some Google Apps for free. I experienced a similar free WiFi service at Hyderabad Airport powered by Tata Docomo. UK networks pledge £5 billion to fix coverage issues

The UK Government have announced a major landmark deal with the four major mobile networks to improve mobile coverage in the UK. Under the terms of the deal, the four networks – Vodafone, Three, O2 and EE – have guaranteed to spend £5 billion together to offer guaranteed mobile coverage to 90% of premises across the UK by 2017. BlackBerry Classic headed to Vodafone, O2 and EE in the UK

The new BlackBerry Classic smartphone will be available in the UK next month as networks Vodafone, O2 and EE have confirmed they will range the handset. All three networks will offer the BlackBerry Classic to business customers but rival network Three, who focuses on consumer connections only, will not be stocking the Classic.

Canada loans Vodafone $850 million to boost BlackBerry sales

Canada is backing the continued growth and existence of BlackBerry with a large 5-year $850 million loan to British communications giant Vodafone Group. Under the terms of the agreement, Vodafone will use $750 million to purchase equipment and services produced by BlackBerry and the other $100 million with smaller Canadian companies. Vodafone could seek protection over BT’s EE buyout

Vodafone is set to ask the UK watchdog and regulators to ensure BT doesn’t discriminate against its rivals once the latter acquires UK mobile leader EE. As revealed this week, BT is in talks over a possible £12.5 billion takeover of telecoms giant EE and Vodafone, who will be its closest rival following the acquisition, will require assistance to ensure that BT continues to play fair. Vodafone Ireland has followed in the footsteps of its UK counterpart by introducing a new 4G Roaming offer that allows it customers to use their handset with superfast data whilst roaming in 33 countries around the world. For a single daily charge, consumers can use their inclusive Ireland allowances whilst roaming overseas with the daily cost varying depending on the country visited.
