Verizon to sell Yahoo and AOL to Apollo Funds for $5 billion

Verizon today announced that it has signed an agreement with Apollo Funds to sell Verizon Media that comprises iconic brands such as Yahoo and AOL, as well as leading ad tech and media platform businesses for $5 billion. Verizon will retain a 10% stake in the company, which will be known as Yahoo at the close of the transaction and will continue to be led by CEO Guru Gowrappan. Reliance Jio is reportedly planning to enter the laptop market segment, as they are currently developing a product called the JioBook. The laptop was spotted to be running a custom version of Android OS, called JioOS, and is powered by a Qualcomm SoC inside.

Telecom Spectrum Auction 2021: Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea win spectrum as auction raises Rs. 77814 crore for Govt

The Department of Telecom (DoT) has announced the winners in the 2021 spectrum auction in various circles that ended after 2 days. At the end of the auction government got bids worth Rs. 77,814.80 core with Rs. 77,146 raised on the first day after four rounds and Rs 668.20 crore raised in the two rounds on the second day. This substantially exceeded pre-bid estimates of Rs. 45,000 crore.  Bharti Airtel Ltd, Vodafone Idea, and Reliance Jio took part in the auction. Reliance Jio has launched new ‘2G-MUKT BHARAT’ offer that offers 12 months of service for existing JioPhone users at Rs. 749. For new JioPhone users, the phone along with the 1-year plan costs Rs. 1499 and the 2-year plan costs Rs. 1999. All the plans include unlimited voice calls and 2GB of data every month. The company says that currently, for a feature phone and 2-year service, a user on other network spends about Rs 5,000. Airtel says its network is 5G ready; successfully demonstrates live 5G services in Hyderabad

Airtel today announced that it has become the country’s first telcom performance to successfully demonstrate and orchestrate live 5G service over a commercial network in Hyderabad city. Airtel said that this has been carried out over its existing liberalised spectrum in the 1800MHz band through the NSA (Non Stand Alone) network technology using Ericsson 4G (DSS) radio infrastructure on OPPO Reno5 Pro and OPPO Find X2 Pro smartphones. Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition launched in India at Rs. 89 per month

Amazon Prime Video has launched Prime Video Mobile Edition, a new single-user, mobile-only plan at an introductory price of Rs. 89 per month first time in India.  The plan provides SD quality streaming through the Prime Video app on Android or iOS, which the company says is created especially for a mobile-first country like India. Reliance Jio to make off-net domestic voice calls free starting January 1

Jio and MediaTek announce Gaming Masters esports event with Rs. 12.5 lakhs prize pool

Jio, one of India’s leading telecom companies has partnered with MediaTek to launch the 70-days long ‘Gaming Masters’ e-sports tournament in India. The tournament, which will be open to all players in India, will be played on the mobile battle royale game called Free Fire, and has a total prize pool of Rs. 12.5 lakhs.
