Vodafone Idea has introduced yet another initiative to help their customers maintain social distancing protocols when using their retail store services. It is a voice-based contactless recharge option that is enabled in the Vodafone Idea Smart Connect retailer app, using Google voice recognition to input a customer’s phone number.

After Airtel, Vodafone Idea has is also now offering unlimited calling to other networks on their unlimited plans. Similar to Airtel, there are ‘no conditions’ applicable and users can enjoy unlimited calling to any network on all unlimited plans. Vodafone Idea revised its prepaid plans few days back to introduce FUP in off-net minutes and charged 6p/min for them, which is not applicable anymore with any of the unlimited plans. In March last year Vodafone India and Idea Cellular announced merger of both the companies, which was expected to close last year. Earlier this week the companies said that the management team of the combined business would be confirmed prior to closing, which is now expected to complete in the first half of the current calendar year. Today they have announced the leadership team of the combined business, which will come into effect after the merger has been completed. Couple of months after Vodafone confirming merger talks with Aditya Birla Group’s telecom arm Idea Cellular, Board of Directors of Idea Cellular at its meeting held today, 20th March have approved amalgamation of Vodafone India Limited (VIL) and its wholly owned subsidiary Vodafone Mobile Services Limited (VMSL) with Idea. The combined market share of both the telecom operators add up to 43%, making it the largest telecom firm, surpassing Airtel.

Vodafone today confirmed that it is in talks with Aditya Birla Group’s telecom arm Idea Cellular for an all-share deal that could help both the companies counter the fierce competition in the market.
