Samsung has started rolling out Android 5.0 (Lollipop) update for the Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900) smartphone in India. It rolled out Android 4.4 (KitKat) update for the smartphone back in January last year. Samsung started rolling out Lollipop update for Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 users in some regions last month. The Galaxy S4 got the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update in India last month. Lava has launched Iris X1 Beats, the company’s latest smartphone in the Iris X1 series. It is targeted at music lovers and has K-Class Amplifier and high-quality loudspeakers. Otherwise this is similar to the Lava Iris Alfa that was launched last month, including a 5-inch FWVGA screen, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.4 (KitKat), 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front-facing camera. Apple has increased the price of the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and the iPhone 5S smartphones in India. The increase price could be the result of increase in excise duty on mobile phones imported into India, which was increased to 12.5% from existing 6% in the recent Union Budget. The second generation Moto E was announced last week, packs a 4.5-inch display, is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 410 SoC for 4G LTE variant, 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 SoC for the 3G variant and runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop. Asus has launched the Fonepad 7 (FE171CG) and MeMO Pad 8 (ME581CL) tablets in India. The new Fonepad 7 was unveiled at the CES earlier this year and packs a 7-inch (1024 x 600 pixels) display, is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2520 processor with PowerVR SGX544 GPU, comes with a 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. The MeMO Pad 8 (ME581CL) that was announced at the Computex last year has a 8-inch (1200×1920 pixels) IPS display, is powered by a 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Atom Z3580 processor, comes with a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.2-megapixel front-facing camera. Motorola India recently partnered with Airtel to offer free data for Moto E, Moto G (2nd Gen) and Moto X (2nd Gen) users. Airtel pre-paid users get free data for two months, while post-paid users get bill discounts per month for 2 months on subscription of 3G and 2G data packs.
