Mobile World Congress 2008

Formerly known as 3GSM, the Mobile World Congress is all set to be held in Barcelona, Spain from 11th – 14th February, 2008. Like CES 2008, this show will see the launch of several handsets in all categories by almost all companies.

In fact, some companies such as LG, Motorola and Samsung have already begun showcasing the handsets that will be officially launched here.

Also watch out for the appearance of the handsome and talented Robert Redford (film actor, director and Sundance Institute Founder & President) who will headline at Mobile Backstage, a special one day Mobile Entertainment conference on Wednesday 13th February 2008. See you at Proto.in 2008

I m really excited as Im going to be attending Proto.in 2008 – An event to showcase startups in India.

Im interested in the Telecom and Mobile sectors and the first session tomorrow deals with these two sectors.

We might see some product launches and some cool new ideas being presented by Startups.

We will be covering most of the action here on FoneArena as we are an Online Media partner for Proto.in 2008.

Samsung SCH- i760 Your new mobile office

These model numbers are so confusing. Why don’t Mobile companies just give their unique handsets a nickname?

The Samsung SCH i760 is unique. It is a good looking handset with a unique arrangement of keys and navigation pad on the body.  It is a Windows Mobile smart phone with a slide out, full QWERTY keypad.

Samsung G800 Worlds FIRST 5 megapixel Auto focus Camera phone

Yup, that’s what they say… Samsung G800 has a 5 whopping megapixels with auto focus! Not just that, it also has a 3x optical zoom and a Xenon flash. Why do I need a digicam now that I can have this beauty?

And yes, it’s a beauty. A slim slider handset, it is a ‘pretty’ phone.

Samsung SGH- i780 – Windows Mobile with TV out and optical mouse

Samsung SGH- i780 is a Kinda regular looking handset…

It has a 2.5 inch touch screen as well as a full QWERTY keypad.

The interesting bits are a) the TV out option and b) optical mouse for navigation.

Here’s more news from the Consumer Electronics Show 2008 on at Las Vegas. This time, it is Samsung. Four new models – SGH-i450, G800, SGH-i620, SCH-i760.

Nokia goes Green at CES 2008

As we all know that the CES 2008 was held recently. Mobile handset players like Nokia, Motorola, Sony Ericsson etc showcased their upcoming and concept handsets. Nokia, may be in order to win the Greenpeace award for 2008 (went to Sony Ericsson in 2007), showcased another eco-sensor concept phone, which monitors the environment as well as the vital stats of the person who is using it. Mobile Innovations of 2008 winners announced

I never knew that Users would expect so much out of their mobile phone before kicking of Free Recharge contest where we asked the users 1 simple question. What feature would you like to see in your mobile phone in 2008 ?

We got about 65 Responses from users who had patiently written about the features which they would like to have in their mobile phone in 2008.

We really had a tough time picking the winners. Most ideas were good and we could not eliminate users easily. So we have picked 10 Users at Random as winners.

MoDemo – a report

Modemo was a single day event held at Bangalore . You can see the announcement.
The event was held at the Airport Road office of ThoughtWorks International.
The folks behind MoMo Bangalore have put together this event.

About 20 Demos were presented.
The coolest part was meeting people who are doing / tracking mobile stuff.
The crowd comprised of a gentle mix of people from startups, hobbyists, product brands and the likes.

The event went on from 9am in the morning to about 6:15pm in the evening.
Rajan from MomoBangalore made the welcome speech and mentioned that the idea of a MoDeMo is inspired by a

Nokia unveiled Comes With Music, a radical program that enables people to buy a Nokia handset with a year of unlimited access to millions of tracks from a range of great artists – past, present and future. As a music buff you get all you have ever wanted, and you get to keep it in the form of unlimited downloads to your mobile device and PC. The program will be launched with Universal Music Group International, and Nokia is in discussion with other major international music labels.

Ovi – Open the ‘door’ to social networking through your handset

Ovi, ‘door’ in Finnish will enable consumers to easily access their existing social network and content. The Ovi will function as common user interface between all networking websites from mobiles, PC and web environments. The Ovi environment and services will be formally rolled out in 2008. Nokia plans expansion of Sriperumbudur plant

Nokia, world leader in Mobile phone technology, announced its plan to expand its manufacturing facility located in Sriperumbudur, Chennai for the year 2008.

Nokia plans to invest approximately 75 million USD in the plant to cater to the requirement and growing demand of its handsets across Asia, Middle East and Africa.
